Are the horse lords of the Velashu Uplands Varisians or Shoanti?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

In the Varisia section of Pathfinder 3 (page 67), the horse lords of the Valashu Uplands are described. I was wondering if these folks are Shoanti, Varisian or possibly Chelish.

They seem like they might be a barbarian tribe, but none of the Shoanti tribes listed explicitly claim the Velashu Uplands as their territory, and none of the Shoanti tribes mention skill with horses.

However, they also don't quite fit with the feel of the Varisians, who seem more wagon-train gypsies as opposed to galloping riders of the plains.

I kind of doubt they're Chelish colonists, but I could be wrong.

They seem more Shoanti than anything--then again it's kind of nice to just have another culture in Varisia that's just its own thing rather than being part of the "big three". You certainly get the impression from the player's guide that any culture in Varisia that isn't Varisian or Shoanti are concidered Chelish by default. That could certainly mean there's more "hidden" cultures that consider themselves distict and separate, but which get consistantly glommed together by outsiders. It seems a bit claustrophobic to just have the "gypsy" guys, the "Aiel" guys, and the "Korvosan/Magnimaran" guys. Personally I think it'd be neat to let the Borderlander-style guys who patrol the Ashwood have their own lost culture too. People just think of them as this group of "chelish" rangers, but in fact they're this long and noble tradition. I think the setting could use more of that kinda' thing.

They're a mix of Shoanti blood and Linnorm King blood. Mostly Shoanti, though. They actually belong to the Shriikirri-Quah, and are one of the more far-flung groups from that tribe.

ookay, now you are just making up names =P

Spoiler:
joking ^_^

edit: and how should this be pronounced?? o.O

That makes sense. I figured if they were Shoanti, it would be either the Shriikirri or the Tamiir over in the Stony Mountains.

Thanks for the quick response James! You guys are the best. These boards are a great resource. It's like having Gary Gygax or Monte Cook as your neighbor.

HA!

Of course, I made up most of the names in Varisia. Including Varisia. So the Shriikirri-Quah fit right in!

And it's pronounced: SHREE-ker-ee

Kinda rhymes with the made-up word, "shriekery" which is a word you'd use to describe a banshee or other shriek using monster.

Dark Archive

I have seen only today, and happens that i´m playing the Adventure Path - Second Darkness - #03 - The Armageddon Echo where there is a encounter with the Velashu Horse Lords, and in the description there one importante quote:

Adventure spoiler:
Over the generations, their blood has
mixed with both Varisians and the odd Shoanti—although
the Horse Lords aren’t officially part of the Shoanti tribes,
some scholars still refer to them as the “Eighth Quah.”
Never in front of a full-blood Shoanti, though.

Well, i think that by now everybody here knows that, but for those who find this thread by google i hope there is for some help.

ps: sory my bad english, im from Brazil ;)

I thought the horse lords were from Rohan.
