My campaign is getting really close to the end.
Last night, my players managed to secure the alliances with Charon, Iggwilv, Orcus, and the Court of Stars.
Some of the more notable scenes:
The party trying to convince Charon they were not responsible for the diversion of the River Styx... until Charon pointed out that the Styx wouldn't have been diverted if they hadn't provoked the big D. They were quick to apologize after that.
While waiting for Iggwilv to be available in the waiting room, the party wizard started thumbing through the mysterious seventh volume of the Demonomicon of Iggwilv that was found in the Wells of Darkness. One of the arcanaloths was serving the party drinks while they waited and saw this.
His eyes widened:
"I was not aware that there were seven volumes..."
The wizard without looking up:
"That's why you're the apprentice."
While the party fighter fought the death giant in the arena and the rest of the party was sitting near Orcus. Orcus continually berated the warblade and praised his death giant (I was so disappointed, they managed to make the Diplomacy roll so I didn't get to use the Crawling Head). The party pretty much asked Orcus to put his money where his mouth is. So they managed to get Orcus to bet with them. After the warblade defeated the death giant... barely, he was standing with only 1 hit point left (and he made his save against the death effect... Grrr)... after being smacked with three critical hits the previous round. Orcus made his "I'll win your battle for you." speech and vanished without paying... but I had a balor pay them the money owed as they were leaving. I wanted to emphasize that Orcus made a commitment and would honor his word... for now.
