Bringing back banished demons on the Isle of Dread

Savage Tide Adventure Path

I'm currently running city of broken Idols, and my demon wrecker cleric has done a great job of banishing a number of demons they have encountered back to the abyss. I am wondering how the demons were brought to island in the first place and whether Khala has any means of bringing back demons that were vanished. In particular I am wondering if he has a means of returning Olanati who was banished with a holy word spell.

Any thoughts?

Liberty's Edge

Just doing some out loud imagining here:

Maybe the lasting effects from the savage tide a thousand years ago causes occasional rifts to open into the Abyss (much like a volcanic eruption might open a portal into the elemental plane of fire). Demons there are attracted to the island while the rift is open, and soon after, it closes. This might explain how the bulk of the wandering demons ended up there.

It's also possible that through one of these rifts, maintained for some time by the kopru through rituals or some use of the bile, that Demogorgon was able to manifest his aspect there, building it out of a kopru that sacrificed himself (or Demogorgon just selected one, he's not the type to ask...).

That doesn't entirely explain how the wastrilith or Olanati got there, unless Demogorgon sent specific minions through the same rift to assist in his purposes there.

All that said, using this random rift idea, Demogorgon can only send specific minions to the island as rifts open up. Maybe Khala can instead send out a call to the wandering demons of the island. Just because hezrou and vrocks are in the encounter table certainly doesn't have to mean they are the only ones available. Maybe there are demons of all types available, some more rare than others. So, Khala can call new ones from the island to serve him instead of bringing back the banished ones.

Maybe Khala could willingly open rifts using the fresh bile, but if the PC's have killed the bilewretch, Khala no longer has that option - even though eventually, he could still get a replacement bilewretch as well. I would imagine he used fresh bile to arrange his Pact with the wastrilith, too (I don't have the Fiendish Codex supplement, so I don't know if I'm off base here).

Keeping all this in mind, Khala can replace his forces over time, just not quickly. And with the bilewretch gone by the PCs' hands, they've unknowingly had an impact on how well Khala can reinforce.

My way of running things like that is to let the results of the pcs' actions reward them. Khala has the summon Tanar'i ability which enables some reinforcements at least.
