I thought the first one was pretty mediocre; definitely not as smart as the comics were at their best. Hopefully this one will be cool. I'd rather have Mignola concentrating on comics rather than another movie. Especially if Darkness Calls is an indication of where things are going with the comic.
I have learnt to never really expect much from the first movie in a (potential series/franchise because lets face it this is how they do things now...) especially with sci-fi or comicbook movies.
They use the first one just to set things up/introduce the mainstream audience to the whole set up and thats about it -but they do try and add some cool moments and stuff for the fans... Its a shame but thats how it is ...but hey! -at least Hellboy aint as bad as say... Ghostrider! :O
But anyway... Hellboy was a great movie I think, I bet number 2 will rock -rather like the second X-men movie was the best/fan fave. ;) Shame about X3 sucking (that'll teach em to let a straight man direct a gay mans movie! ;P)
Ron Pearlman is perfect in the role of HB and the 'feel' of the comics was def there ...for me anyway. :)
Then again I'm looking forward to Alien VS Predator 2 so perhaps I'm crazy!

Well,...
it can't be much worse than the first one... can it?
Tons of cool AvP comics, novels, etc and they pick some mediocre script about the frozen wastes of earth???

I am looking forward to the next hellboy movie. And the two cartoons haven't been bad either...

I don't know if anyone's caught this from earlier this month, but there's a newer Hellboy 2 trailer that went up.
Perhaps it's too early in the summer movie season for this, but I am really pumped for this movie! This anticipation was what disappointed me some with first movie - so I try to keep a cooler perspective, but this trailer makes it looks so awesome again.
I don't know too much about the Hellboy Universe, but just what I see looked impressive - albino elf-people; metal-gauntleted trolls; a bizarre winged seer?; earth elementals; shape-changers, and of course clock-working looking golems that form a destructive army. It may all be more impressive in my imagination, but it makes me want to run a D20 modern arcana setting.
Also, the offbeat humor and Ron Pearlman's Hellboy style just makes it seem like fun. I hope it won't disappoint.
