Dungeon Issue 146

Liberty's Edge

If I'm not mistaken, issue 146 has the adventure Escape from Meenlock Prison or something like that. I've read on these boards that it is one of the best adventures Dungeon ever published.

I'd like to get a copy of this issue - does anyone have a copy they's be interested in selling, giving away, trading etc? I have a few extra copies of some early issue of Dragon and Dungeon if anyone wants to trade.

Thanks!

I think its a really excellent adventure but I'm a tad concerned that you've built it up into more then maybe it is in your mind.

Its good, and with a DM with some skills at portraying horror, it sure could be an truly entertaining adventure. However if your lousy at doing that horror thing its not going to magically make you into a horror DM Sensie or anything.

Furthermore its not really all that large - there are in the region of 5 or so encounters in that adventure I suspect - some essentially roleplaying. Maybe a little more. I'd bet most groups could substantially finish it in a single 8 hour session. Really a lot of fun for a 1st level adventure and it could set a pretty dark and gritty tone for your next D&D campaign but its really nothing more then a very well done Dungeon adventure much like many other excellent ones that came before.

I have a hard time with "best Dungeon adventure EVAR" in any context. You can't compare apples to oranges, and Dungeon adventures are in too many categories. You can break them down by level range, setting, edition of the game, fit for your particular players, etc.

To top it off, each DMs skill at execution, and the atmosphere during the session will also affect that perception. A beautifully written adventure will still suck if the players can't get past Monty Python quotes. A barely scratched out outline can be a masterwork if the players embrace it and run.

Thanks everyone for the opinions. Please note however that I said 'one of the best' and I am only basing this on what a fairly large number of posters here on these very boards have said (the thread was something about "what is the best Dungeon to start a new 1st level group on" and a number of people said run this one - it's probably one of the best adventures Dungeon has ever published)

Anyway, personal opinions aside, my main question really was does anyone have a copy of Dungeon issue 146 they would be willing to sell, trade ... give away;)

Thanks everyone!

Are your crazy! That issue has Escape from Meenlock Prison in it! I'll never sell or trade it!

All kidding aside I suggest you just pick up the magazine.

Find it here.

It is a solidly good adventure, no question. In fact I used it on higher level characters since I needed a prison encounter and it worked really well even though they were sixth at the time. I recommend it highly.
