So I'm trying to make a wiki for my D&D game, to replace livejournal as my group's online interactive information system. Sadly, my current level of computer literacy floats somewhere around the "computers are magical" level. So, do any bright and brave paizoians have any hints or tips for someone just starting out? Anything would be appreciated. Thanks

The wiki software I use for my campaign setting is MediaWiki (the same software used for WikiPedia). I've been bogged down with other projects since I originally got it setup however, I don't recall there being many options for getting into the nitty-gritty of text formatting, however, when I set mine up, I believe that I left the option enabled to use HTML code (which is the only way I'd know of to do what You're asking).
Assuming that Yours uses the same wiki syntax, most of what You'll be doing is simply [[forming links]] to other articles (whether they exist yet or not) and assigning a [[category:name]] to Your various topics.
In addition You can form a...
== Topic Heading ==
...within an article. If You make enough headings, I believe the wiki should automatically generate a table of contents for You.
There are lots of other things You can do too of course (embedding images, inserting an [http://www.paizo.com external link], etc.), however, You should probably check to see what the full syntax is for whatever You are using.

I've used MediaWiki at home and at work. I absolutely love it, but "It's fricking insane." Amazing really, all the crap that goes into making Wikipedia look so smooth and easy. If you are familiar with LAMP or WAMP setups, can script or fake it in at least one language (for bots), and have your own space at a webhost, run with it. It really is the best there is. You'll also want to be familiar with WikiMarkup (especially tables and templates), some .php editing, and a few other things I'm probably forgetting. Unfortunately, it's a serious pita for one person to manage.
The good news is, if you go to Mediawiki's site, they admit as much, and give you a list of managed wiki hosts to choose from.
