Does Golarion have a creation myth?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

What's the origin of the planet? How did man and fey and goblins and all come into being?

Are the gods of Golorion more than just "Hey, we should have a god of luck"?

That information is not quite ready for public consumption... but we have indeed been working on one.

Um...

In the beginning there was only ocean, an endless gray ocean framed by a naked sky. There was no wind, no stars, no waves. It was as if the world was a mirror with nothing to reflect. It was silent.

Then came Mara and Imn, sister and brother, upon a reed boat. Mara was light and Imn was darkness and between them there was finally something to see. They made love, and from their motion the waves were made, and from their breath came the wind, and from their loins came the first god, Gozreh. To feed their son Mara put fish in the ocean and to bid him to rest Imn made night in the sky. Their son was perfect in their eyes and he loved his parents dearly. They were happy.

Next Imn and Mara had a shining daughter who looked much like her mother, but Gozreh was jealous so they put her in the sky, and she became Serenrae. Then they had another son, Abadar, but Gozreh ate his foot in spite, so Imn created land on which to place his second son and Mara created man to help him walk and keep him company.

Mara then became pregnant with a girl and Gozreh grew so furious he kicked his mother in the belly. The unborn child slipped into the world of the dead and became Pharasma.

So outraged with this last act was Imn that he threw Gozreh from the boat. The boy could not swim, and neither Serenrae of the sky nor Abadar of the earth would have him, so he sank into the endless deep. But he did not die. His rage boiled the ocean and tore the skies. It shattered the boat into a thousand stars and swallowed his parents whole.

Serenrae, Abadar and Pharasma mourned, but none more than Gozreh who despaired at his foolishness and turned away from them in shame.

Anyway, something like that.

Hehe.

Still, there are things we know :

Mortals can ascend to godhood. Aroven – the first human also know as the last Azlant was a mortal.

Gods can be killed, they are nether omnipotent or immortal – Aroven was somehow destroyed.

Gods can respond to the calling of their faithful by channeling spells – this link of positive or negative energy creates an aura around the worshipper.

Time affects the gods. Some gods – such as those of the Thallasonian pantheon - were more powerful in other times.

As for the races creation - well lets says every cultures has is own believes – there is nothing sure, it is a question of faith! In my Golarion campaign humanoids are all genetically related. But various gods play with the genetic template. Yeah, even god mess around template these days!

Selk, I am now committed to going back through every post you've ever made and swiping every brilliant, half-assed comment you've put up here.

Between this story and your suggestions for the Parade of Idols and recognition of Nualia, I've become a fan for life.

Wow, thanks Fletch. I'm afraid you wont find much, not yet. I'm new here. I've used most of my posts to lob inappropriate comments at F. Wesley Schneiderblerstein.

I don't know why, but I laughed at this.

I'm with Fletch - you write very well, Selk - and I'm looking forward to reading more!

Cheers
