My game is already past SoSC, but this was one of those moments that really surprised me.
Instead of having one of the Bar'lguras teleport the gestalt Fighter/Warmage 16 to the underdark or Wormcrawl Fissure I had him taken to the captain in an effort to avoid all the issues with the other options. Captain Wither was going to torture information out of the PC about the forces that were arrayed against him. The PC cast Disintegrate deffensively, twice. I rolled horribly for the captain and after a round of full attacks Cold Captain Wither was cold dead. It worked out in the end as the captain's minions quickly overpowered the PC and carted him off to Divided's Ire.
The best laid plans and all that.

As he said...those moments are pretty cool in a way though. It goes both ways too unfortunately--one of my players nearly got killed by a single powerful blow by an opponent last game at the start of combat. Served as a bit of a reminder to remember to work as part of a team.
Just curious, Tambryn - how did he get off the two disintegrates before CCW brought him the smack? (I ask because this is just the sort of quarky thing I could see happening to me.) Did the fighter gestalt contribute anything, or was it just concentration + decent rolling? Whatever the cause, it's moments like that one that make me glad to be playing D&D and not a computer game.
