Unfamiliar Unfamiliar Ground

Dungeon Magazine General Discussion

I'm thinking about running Unfamiliar Ground from Dungeon 119 as a follow up to my last adventure. The primary themes of this campaign are "Steam Punk" and Far Realms/Abberation type incursions, So i'm thinking about chainging the goblins to Kaorti (yes that would up the power level, i have 7 PCs and they walk through most everything) should i change up the background (and Hezz) or leave that part alone?

I ran the adventure pretty much as is... My guys had a fairly easy time wandering through the earthen tunnels and finally confronting Neegla in the well room.

When the dust settled they party went into loot-the-room mode! The cleric looked into the well...

The party still talkes about that last encounter! Beef up Snapper for your higher level party and show them this.

As for the little annoying imp guy, change him as you see fit - this was a follow up to Necromancer's The Wizard's Amulet so I just changed Hezzrack to Talon.

This is still one of my all time favorites.

Hezzrack probably doesn't need any changes unless you really want him to escape at the end to become a recurring character in your campaign. For a party of 7 PCs, though, I'd suggest making Snapper less damaged and restoring his missing attacks. He could be really deadly if you focus his attacks all on one PC at a time, so I would try to spread them around to make him a threat to more characters.

I'm glad you like the adventure! :)

Thanx for the input so far. I'll definately beef up Snapper, as for Hezz, i think a few more wizard levels, maybe not. The head Kaorti (Neegla, what the hell) is trying to figure out how to infuse him with Pseudo-natural energies as part of trying to make him her familiar. Neegla will be a striaght Sorc with a twin(or something) fighter to wield the Ice Pick. I still want to maintain the group dynamic established there among the goblins/Kaorti. Oh, and the snake at the front will be Kaortic as well, still a random encounter the others have no influence over it (and it isn't averse to eating them either).

Yes it is an awsome adventure, have you written any others Chris? I never noticed any.

Liberty's Edge

Nope. Unfamiliar Ground is my one and only adventure in print. I have notes and maps for a couple more that I've run for my players, which I'd like to make into full-fledged modules someday, but that's the only one I've actually written up for publication.

Well i'm happy to have it.
