Just curious with Sasserine so below the equator on Oearth, any ideas on when sunrise or sunset is or any other time related events happen??

just curious as I'm tryin to portray a accurate view of the time during the game & such.

Since I live in eastern Oregon & such, the time difference is so different then say here & down South of me.

thanks for any help on this

RM

I don't think that Sasserine is south of the equator, but it's certainly closer to the equator than more temperate regions of Oerth.

Anyway, that's the important thing -- distance from the equator. Having lived in Portland, then L.A., and now Seattle, here's the difference: Day length. The further you are from the equator, the more extreme your day lengths. You know how Portland (and, more so, Seattle) has gloriously long summer days, and brutally short winter days? L.A. (and, probably, Sasserine) has shorter summer days and longer winter nights. Similarly, the sun won't get as far north in the summer, nor will it stay as far south in the winter; it'll be "more overhead".

Now, Sasserine's climate is going to be much more Mediterranean than Portland/Seattle/eastern Oregon. In the summer, think mid-80s days, low-60s nights, typically, with some days hotter (esp. when the wind shifts to come off the mainland). In the winter, low-60s days, high-40s nights.

Given Sasserine's location basically in the rain forest, I'd say that it gets heavy rainfall over the year; perhaps brief daily downpours would be common ("oh, it's two hours after noon, better get indoors before the rain hits"). Alternately, it could get hit by a heavy monsoon season, though then the city would probably be built on stilts to accomodate higher river/harbor levels.

Look at a sunrise/sunset table for Miami.

But really, it's medieval. About five people in the whole city have clocks and everyone else tells time by the sun. It's close enough to the tropics that people don't notice the variations in day length that much.

If you have days go 14 hours in summer and 10 hours in winter, it's probably close enough.

And dawn and dusk are SUDDEN compared to places further from the equator. Like curtains dropping/being raised, from the viewpoint of people used to hours of twilight in the northern European latitudes.

thanks for the info guys

I knew it slightly different but how long & such, wasn't quite sure

again thanks

If you look at this map of Oerth, you will see that the part of Flaeness that Sasserine is located in is about 17-18 degrees north of the equator. An Earth equivalent might be the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico.
