I was stripping the paint off some old minis earlier and I noticed that the Ral Partha illithid miniature they did, based on the illustration from the Monstrous Compendium, has no thumbs.
All of my first and second edition stuff is in storage right now, so I can't easily look. Does anyone have either the 1E Monster Manual or the 2E Monstrous Compendium handy and can look to see if the mind flayers are depicted as having thumbs? I know this is silly, but it's going to drive me a low grade crazy until I know whether Ral Partha goofed, or illithid lacked opposable thumbs until 2000 and I never noticed.
They did not goof up,
I've got the 2nd edition monstruous compedium (volume 1) in front of me and the Mind Flayer picture has no thumbs. Even more (or less, depending) they've only got 3 fingers.
