I am creating this thread as a place for all of the players from our many campaigns to discuss mundane things that don't really belong in our campaign journals. For example, concerning this Thursday's game: I know that we have two clerics and a knight so far, and I was wondering what the other players were playing. Also, Abe & Steve: can you tell me a little more about your characters?

I'm so confused as to what we are playing this week, I have so many characters made from all the games that have almost been started, are we playing your 8th level game?

Dark Archive

Yes, we are. Abe & Steve are playing clerics, and Bradley is playing a knight. Still not sure what you & Amanda are playing. I recommended making a warmage to her, but I am not sure if she did it or not. She was talking about making a rogue. Sorry for any confusion: I know that we have been making a TON of new characters lately.
Just keep in mind that whatever you make, don't get too attached to it--it won't last too long in the meat grinder that is coming...

The Exchange

Amanda is making a warmage but abram and myself are helping her make it awsome, and she rolled awsome stats.

Hey, Justin. I was talking with some of the group earlier, and I think we will be starting yet another game this Thursday. I just don't think anybody was feeling it last Thursday. At one point in time, I looked up at poor Steve and seriously thought that he looked soooo bored that if he could have willed himself to death, he would have. That's usually a good sign that it is time for somebody else to take the mantle. Wanted your input on things.

That's probably a good thing, I was about to kill off Steve and Abe's characters anyways if they weren't going to be more serious about the game. Those had to be two of the most annoying characters I've ever played with, uggghhhh, why model a character off of beer fest for a serious game? I mean, if it wasn't a horror setting, I would have been fine with it if we were all playing cheesy characters, but in that campaign it just wasn't gonna work. Personally, I vote for playing a pathfinder setting. I know you have the book *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge*! Now, what level are we gonna be? And what kinda setting are we gonna play?

As for who will be running, unless Abe wants to start his campaign without Martin, I still really like your sessions. I wouldn't be too worried about Steve looking bored, I got the impression that something had happened between him and Abe/Amanda before I got there, and that he was pouting for the entire session over it. I wouldn't take it as a reflection on your GM'ing skills. Further, I think that people really need to take more time on there character backgrounds. It seemed like it was difficult for the others to get past their concepts, only Bradley seemed to have a good sense of his character, though I felt pretty confident in my characters background by the end of the session. Also, it seemed like Abe and Steve really just wanted to pick on Bradley, which I can't really condone. They were playing two douche bag characters which created internal party conflict, which never helps in the first session of a campaign. Seriously, don't stress out about whether your doing a good job or not, the main thing is if your having fun being the gm because I'm having fun playing your game and I know that the others are too. I guess if your not having fun then its time to let someone else take the reigns, but I hope thats not the case. Either way, I can tell you one thing for certain, I do not want to be the person running the game, I seriously do not have the time to do that much planning.

Alright, sorry for the triple post...... but, my final thought, is that I really just want to play. I don't care what setting or who runs it, I just want us to start something and stick with it. I'm a little tired of creating characters, and honestly, I still had fun with the last session, and thought that the campaign looked like it was going to be a lot of fun. So, my vote, is that if we aren't going to stick with Ravenloft, then we make sure we are going to see whatever we start next to the finish. Personally, I'm cool with the setting of Ravenloft, I just thought that there were party problems that we could resolve through a little in game role playing along with some completed back stories from the other players. All I want to do is play..... end of story. Therefore, my suggestion is that if we aren't going to continue with Ravenloft, then we need to make sure that everyone has a character ready to play with a full back story at the beginning of our first session of the new campaign. Thus, if you do decide to run something else, then just post it up here on paizo and I will be ready on Thursday.

Dark Archive

Well, it looks like Steve is going to be gone for the next two Thursdays. He has some sort of appointment this Thursday, and is going to Texas with Mel next Thursday. I haven't received my Pathfinder stuff yet, it is still "shipping," which means that it will be at least a week before I get it.
Horror campaigns can be awesome in the right setting, but that wasn't it. It does take all of the players "getting into the mood" for it to work right, and you are right--their characters would have been better in a loony toons campaign.
I, too, would like to play just one game and stick with it for a while. I am ready to go in my Greyhawk campaign, but I think that Martin would rather be there for that one. I also get the impression that Abe is done with my campaign and ready for Martin's next one. However, with Martin down at the lake, we are kinda in Limbo for a while.
Do you think that we should just take a break until everybody is back in town?

I'd rather keep playing something, anything! I don't really see why we are taking breaks every time a single person is out of town. We have a big group, as long as there are four or more people I think that we should keep playing. I know that when I'm gone I don't have a problem with turning over my character sheet to you to take control of my character. I want to play. If Abe and Amanda really are tired of playing, then maybe you could run for me and Bradley or something. However, I really don't think that's an issue. I think that Abe and Amanda are having more problems with finding a character that they really REALLY want to play. Last session kind of got ruined when his idea for the characters with Steve got ruined because Steve changed his last minute. Really, we just need to get moving, everyone is being apathetic, and no one seems to want to be the one to make a decision because everyone is too worried about everyone else's feelings. I say screw it, I just want to play, I don't care if its your game or Abe's, I just want to play. I also think that both you and Abe need to stop being so self conscious about if your games are fun or not. No matter how much we joke about what happens in the games on these boards, the fact is that I really do enjoy playing them. It's fun to get together hang out, shoot the sh#t and do a little gaming. If I wasn't having fun, I wouldn't be showing up every week. With all of this in mind, I am now promoting myself to "The Decider"! If no one else is willing to say what they really want then I will. I want to play, out of the desire to streamline this process, I say Jason runs simply because if nothing else he can run out of the multitude of resources that he has at his disposal. Finally, Jason, if you don't want to continue your original game until Martin gets back since he started the campaign with us, then I can understand that. Martin has told me multiple times that its ok if we continue, but since it is supposed to be a close knit family, I can be a bit more forgiving for delaying the game. However, from now on, I think that if someone isn't going to be at a session, then they lose the xp and the playing time for missing the game. Obviously, this includes me as well. It is really time for us to stop screwing around, because its getting a bit aggravating. Therefore, pick your setting and campaign, if it isn't the Ravenloft game we had last session, then everyone will show up to Thursday, not with characters, but with back stories. Then you and I can help them create characters to fit those stories, period. For everyone else reading this, the place I like to start for a backstory is a picture that I really REALLY like. Then as I look at the picture I start writing a story around the picture. Then, I create the characters personality as I feel it would have become from such events that have happened in there past. Then, FINALLY, as the very last thing I do, I create my character. The game rules are the LEAST important part of a ROLE PLAYING GAME, worry about them at the end. Don't go into it thinking " I'm going to make a Fighter, or I'm going to make a sorceror." It's just not that important. With all of this said, I expect everyone to have a story ready for Jason on Thursday, because I'm tired of all this wishy washy oh I think I want to play crap. If everyone is really excited about playing then lets play, otherwise please stop wasting my valuable time. If people decide they don't want to play, then Jason, I would love for you to run something for just me if it comes to that. Obviously, anyone else who decides they WANT to play is welcome as well. Thus, to recap, here is the plan:

1. Jason is running a game.
2. Everyone who wants to play will have a source of inspiration for their character on Thursday, this can be a picture, a mini, a song, etc. However, no books, no movies, no video games, you will have more fun if it is your original story and character.
3. Everyone will have at least the beginnings of a back story, and a good idea of what they want the characters personality to be.
4. On Thursday we will not actually play, we will still meet and hang out though. We will brain storm over what everyones characters should be.
5. More importantly, Jason will give us the background of the world and the setting on Thursday, this will enable everyone to be able to create more comprehensive back grounds for their characters by the start of the game.
6. Everyone will finish their back story then e-mail it to Jason by next Tuesday, this will give Jason two days to prepare for the first session (If you would rather it was earlier than that Jason to give you more time then that's cool, just let us know on Thursday)
7. 1 Week from Thursday, we start the new campaign, Steve will join in when he gets back into town. Any time that Martin visits we don't take a break from this campaign to play any others, rather Jason will have an NPC ready for him to play.

If any one has suggestions or amendments to this list, please feel free to post them here. However, this is no longer a democracy, I am the Decider, and that's how its gonna be.

Sorry I can't be there tonight--I'm still down from my injury. I was thinking about what you wrote, and I think that maybe I should go ahead with my Greyhawk campaign even when some of the players can't be there. Perhaps I will collect character sheets after every game, and if someone is unable to attend, I will have someone else play their character. The unattending player's character will still be a part of the game, although in a diminished capacity, an will therefore be awarded half share of experience points in order to keep any one character from falling too far behind. I really want everyone to see what's going to happen with this Greyhawk game--I have big plans ahead. Screwing around with other campaigns seems almost to be a waste of time. I would like for everyone to be there, but sometimes real life gets in the way. BTW, do you know when Martin will be back?

That sounds good to me, I couldn't agree more about trying to do other campaigns for a short period of time to be somewhat useless at this point. Martin is back in town today for the day, and he said they finally hired a new manager so once they are trained he will be back, he expects about another 8 weeks minimum. Otherwise, what injury? Are you ok? what happened?

Dark Archive

What happened yesterday?

Dark Archive

Does anybody have Daria's character sheet? What about Steve's ranger's? Is Steve going to be in attendance on Thursday?

The Exchange

My guess is that since justin lives with martin he could get Daria's sheet... unless martin took it with him to the lake. and i dont know about steve. I would be happy to play Daria for the remainder of martins leave so then I could do something besides just sit on the couch and watch you guys play.

Dark Archive

That's cool--Steve said he would try to get his character to us. He also said that he is sick of playing, he only wants to run now. Just FYI.

I'll look around our place for Martin's character sheet when I get home from work, I dunno if he left it there or not. He might have it with him, if he did leave it I will bring it to the game tomorrow. I like your idea of leaving our character sheets with you at the end of each game, and I'm all up for that!

The Exchange

I think thats a good idea as well. that way i wont lose Van's sheet in with the thousands of other sheets we've made.

The Exchange

So... what are we doing this thursday? we already know that Martin isn't going to be there so what are we going to do?

Dark Archive

Still not sure. He really needs to be at the next session, because a lot of decisions are going to be made that can impact where the entire campaign is going.

Everyone be ready to play late, I have the day off work tomorrow!

In answer to your other request Steve.... here is the current waiting list for running campaigns, set to begin when we finish Jason's current game....

1. Abe's game restart, currently waiting for the return of one Mr. Hoy

2. Martin's sequel to his previous campaign

3. Bradley's game

4. Jason's game #2, pathfinder

5. Jason's game #3, more Greyhawk or possibly Ravenloft

6. Steve's game

7. Jason's game #4 - #50, Greyhawk through Greyhawk

This is the order in which proposals were made.... so be ready to run in approximately 2 1/2 to 3 years :)

well i thought i was before martins.... at least. that is one long and depressing list.

I must say though why am i at the bottom of the list. every one had a chance to run so far. martin, good game loved were it was going cant wait for next. Abe, Quit but it seemed like it was a work in progress wish you would have kept up the game -just my opinion-. Jason, in progress and i like it a lot but why does he get to tun like three times before me? i talked about running before brad did - no offince Brad. i thought i might be next. but i suppose since that is THE list and im at the bottom ill have to wait my turn.
i suppose you think ill be a bad DM.

no worries time unfolds every day.

id also like to add that if Justin speaks for the entire group.
thats pretty lame.

STAN wrote:

K, first of all you didn't talk about it before the others, they have all been talking about it since Martin's last game finished, you would know this if you had stayed with the group instead of coming in and out randomly. Furthermore, we started Abe's game and are ready to continue it upon Martin's return. Martin has been talking about his game since before you were ever introduced to D&D in the first place, he started running this campaign for me and another one of our friends nearly 8 years ago, yet when we couldn't find more people we scrapped it. This isn't just something that happened suddenly, so quit your b$%&#ing, lots of people have been talking about games for frickin ever. I still remember playing your police game so it has nothing to do with your ability as a DM. However, it does have a bit to do with loyalty. You inexplicably refused to play in Abe's game and you randomly miss sessions. How can we possibly expect to run your game when you are this easily offended? You are taking everything way too personally, I made this list in the order of which people talked about wanting to run. If you really expect us to want to play with you, then stop flaking out, because you hurt peoples feelings when you refused to play under Abe's DM'ing. You have a lot of trust to regain within the group, because it is absolutely necessary for a player to trust his DM and your attitude toward the group hasn't helped your case. Continue participating as a player, and then later you can DM, everyone is expected to put there time in.

:) i missed last week cuz i was not well infourmed and i never refused to play Abes game. ever. the only comment i made was, "maybe but i dont want to die 50 times and thats why i wouldnt. but probley will show up" A lot of opinion in your comments but not enough fact. i missed other games due to work travil and work obligations for Boster Photo. latly has been hard knowing whats what with martin in and out of town and its been one minuet we were gunna run with him and i think i herd jason say we wouldnt be running with out him just the other thursday or this one passed. its been strange with martins fag SnS work. i understand i take things to heart, sorry, its just me. cant change that. your "line up" list IS very disapointing.

the one shot on thurs. will be and Epic game 20th level. Apocolips setting. justin i will work on not taking it all to heart and i will try not to lead you in thinking fauls thoughts about my attitude to my friends DMing.

i read up on prev. post and the horror gamer was fine i was just chillin out really i dont know were justin hets the pouting bull crap from but its annoying. i gotta say sometimes justin your such a biotch i could just kick your @$$. damn dude.

First of all, we meet every Thursday, even if its just to hang out with friends, so thinking we aren't playing is no excuse. Secondly, that *list* is by no means permanent, it is just the order in which games were suggested, who is running the game has always been, and will always be a group decision. Thirdly, sorry to hear about the girl trouble, but I'm glad your dad is ok. Lastly, If you think that being responsible, living up to and accepting my own actions, and expecting the same from my friends makes me a b*#ch then that's your own problem, but really you just need to grow up. You can say your scrappy all you want, but I don't really think you understand what 6'5" and 210 really means... so step up any time you want and I'll put you right back down, thinking you can kick my @$$ won't last very long if you ever actually grow the balls to try something.

Anybody kind enough to clue me in on what I missed this evening?

kikai13 wrote:
Anybody kind enough to clue me in on what I missed this evening?

Steve ran his one shot for us, my character was uber broken. As your half-ogre son I killed everything I saw, averaging 400 points of damage per round by shifting into a Mega Raptor that had 60 strength, 9 attacks, pounce, and two-weapon rend :), Even the fiend worm we fought only lasted one round against me, though it did almost suck me into the abyss. As for what happened, we all woke up from our cryostasis in different parts of the city, though Amanda and Bradley were together, and Abe and Martin started together. The city we emerged to was desolate and mostly destroyed. We had no idea who let us out, or why. We were able to hear sounds of battle from around the city, and each of us made our way to it. I arrived first and killed two of these zombie things that were there, eating another adventuring party. One of the adventurers was still alive, and he gave us a piece of paper that one of his companions had shown him. It led us to a house that was boarded up from the outside. We broke in, and on the ceiling was what looked to be a cross with some numbers on it. Martin's character decided that it was probably co-ordinates, so we followed our new little buddy to a place where we could get a map. This then lead us to another house, at the bottom of which there was a giant maze. Apparently, its where the survivors had been hiding from the ghouls and zombies in the city. However, they were all dead when we got there because the fiendworm had attacked from underground. After killing it we decided it was a safe place to rest. When we woke up, our new buddy, Chip, who sounded a lot like Shaggy from Scooby Doo for some reason was dead, and that's about where we ended.

Jason, is Bane ever going to make the DM killboard? I mean, how many times has he died now? And not once on the board :(

kikai13 wrote:
I dig the new icon. Much better, & closer to your current character. Wonder where Bradley's been....

I dunno, you work with him, kick his butt into gear. And thanks, I redid my profile too so that it would match better. Oh, also, since I know that a couple of your other friends have posted in these threads about playing with you, I was wondering if you would be interested in finding a time to run a game on the internet for me, Bradley, anyone from our group who was interested, and them. Either a PbP or through an instant messenger like aim or something with a specific game time each week.

Dark Archive

Do you guys know yet which way you want to go?

I called Martin and Daria will want to go to the oracle of Pelor. I'm ok with that, though my character will be worried about it for the kids safety. I would really like to take a little time at the library of Greyhawk before we head out b/c I would like to research Theruzdan and Adamarcus some more, as well as the letters that I found in the clerics desk. So if we could get a little downtime before we head out that would be perfect.

Dark Archive

Sounds good. I will call you back tomorrow (the 31st.) I had a work function this evening and I just got home. I know you keep odd hours, but I don't want to risk waking you, cause you might have a test or something tomorrow.

Dark Archive

Excited about Thursday's game--Martin is going to be there, right?

It's gonna be smurftastic when I smurfin smurf smurfette!

Is it next Thursday yet?

The Exchange

No, unfourtunatly it's sunday night.

oh... and I'm back.

Dark Archive

Glad to see that you've finally rejoined us!

The Exchange

and it's good to be back.

and i figure since i owe you you for lunch today i'll just buy your food or buy soda or something to pay you back. whatever you think's fair. what are we doing for food on thursday anyway?

Dark Archive

Don't know yet--whatever is cool with me. If you wanted to bring soda for the group, that would be cool.

Dark Archive

This one is for Abe--I hope you will read this--I think that I have a reason for two parties. The group could get together and decide to split up for a distinct reason. One group would continue in the search for the parents, while the other group could be picked out by Karn as a force that would attempt to hunt down Adimarchus and his minions. Because I have so much already written on the parents, you would probably have to take the other group. However, this would give you the opportunity to create a small army that the players would have to fight their way through before attempting to storm Adimarchus' citadel.

The only problem comes up from the division of the groups. I would assume that Daria and Sasha would continue after the parents, but I would think that everyone would want to keep Van as far away from Adimarchus as possible (at least, at this time) so I would guess that he would stay with Daria. From there, I can see a reason why Makibex would leave (the best defense being a good offense idea) but I can also see why he would stay (to be as close to Van as possible.) Kaelin would have reason to want revenge for his imprisonment, and would probably go after Adimarchus. Steve and Elizabeth could make anything, and thusly could go in either group. Also, Blake's character could also go in either group.

What do you think?

Any of the rest of the group can comment on their ideas here as well.

That all seems fine to me except for one thing, Makibex definitely wouldn't leave Van's side for one very simple reason. He does not believe that Adimarcus is the only person that he needs to protect Van from. If it were that simple he would have sought out Adimarcus and cut out his heart a very, very long time ago, so the idea of a good offense being the best defense definitely works, but only if you are sure that you will end the threat with that one person. You have to remember that Makibex doesn't even trust the 'good' deities like Pelor and Heironious, and worries that they will try and destroy him to prevent the return of Theruzdan. So convincing him that Van will be safe with Daria, Sasha, and one other person not named Makibex would be difficult.... no make that impossible....

The Exchange

Van would want to storm Adimarchus' citadel instead of having a Dearn family reunion. and if Makibex's plan is correct where the best defense is a good offense, then the best way to defend Van from... well... everybody, is for Makibex and Van to go and tear out Adimarchus' still beating heart together. with the help of two other characters and an army of minions. Then Daria and Sasha could seek out the remaining Dearn family. Since we also know that Adimarchus traveled with the Dearn parents then the two stories, while seperate would also be connected in a way and our characters would also meet and do things together on a regular basis.

I dont even see where all of the confusion is coming from.

Ahh... Back From The Dead.
Sorry everyone, for being slow to post.
I'm glad I'm on vaca now so I can take time to do this.
Ok... First of all I'd like to say that I am A GENIOUS!?! Because just 24 hours before bradley told me that jason was thinking of splitting the gaming Group, I had thought; Hey, We could totally have two games going. Now, I admit that I thought about two seperate games but now that I think on it this would turn an already awesome campaign into the stuff of ledgends.(if the other Dm *COUGH* can do as well in keeping the feel)

Going back to posting, I'm VERY pleased with my character! Even though my perspective of what Karn would be has changed drasticly (sp?) I've always been keen on secrets and spying. Having said that, It makes it very difficult to post through a character that has a hidden side/agenda to his life, and I do feel a little slighted by not being able to think of a good way to post...

I have thought of a way!!!
Having Karn become an NPC (effectively ending his combat killing spree lol) I can begin posting in the form of letters to his sisters, Sasha/Daria, Still with me?

I believe the party is already at a natural split, and it shows whenever we go into combat and when we do immersion roleplying in town.
Sasha/Daria are together through vow of death, rebirth, whatever, and Vaan/Makibex are ("Wink" they think "Wink") Inseperable. Ever scince Karn said his goodbyes to, ahem... well, Let's just say his heart isn't with the journey. He just wants to help the family.

I think Whenenver jason is ready I am ready, and these two weeks are the perfect time to plan the games' future... I am unsure about running the Makibex/Vaan side simply because Justin, you are an amazing mind, and an assertive personality, and I would have to work super hard to think around you, and I think karn would like to stay with his families side. But! I know jason would run him as a very killer, badass, super-cool NPC, and if that's how you think it best I'll do my very best!

Having said that my thoughts are either;
Party 1
Jason-DM
Justin-Makibex
Bradley-Vaan
Blake-Dragondude(sorry I4got)
Steve-The New Guy(might think healer)

Party 2
Abe-DM
Martin-Daria
Amanda-Sasha
Adam-Kailyn
Elisabeth-The New Gal(Might think Cousin-Daern?)

-------OR-------

Party 1
Jason-DM
Justin-Makibex
Bradley-Vaan
Steve-The New Guy(might think healer)
Adam-Kailyn

Party 2
Abe-DM
Martin-Daria
Amanda-Sasha
Blake-Dragondude(sorry I4got)
Elisabeth-The New Gal(Might think Cousin-Daern?)

Again these are just my thoughts but as I said before I am a genious and my thoughts are the best ;)
and I don't know why but I can type "thoughts" like lightning fast
thoughts

see?

Dark Archive

With everything that I have already written out and planned, however, it has occurred to me that I need to run Sasha and Daria for at least 10-12 more sessions. After that, I can switch off to the other group, or the party can split up at that later time.

Other than this little hiccup, I am open to all suggestions as to how the party should split.

Hmmmm, well the more I think about it, the more I wonder if a split is the best thing to do, I've really become engrossed in the entire story that you have woven Jason, and I'm a bit disappointed that I may have to miss some of it by splitting into smaller groups. We've worked so long and so hard to get as far as we have that it feels kinda cheap to split up, given all these characters have been through together. That's why I suggest that if Abe really does want to NPC Karn, though I'm even disappointed if this is necessary, we should just put the new people together without disturbing the old group. I really want to see what is going to happen with the both the Daern family and Adimarchus due to my connection with the Daern family from playing Bane. On top of this I want to see how all the side plots play out as well. I want to see what happens between Sasha and Daria, and Sasha and her fiance. I want to see if the deities ever allow Van to be healed. I want to see what Karn is doing with Turin, and if he turns evil, or good, or stays neutral, and if he really is an assassin now. My character has been involved with all of these things, and I would like to see them to completion.

Further, I think that it would be easier not only to split at this point, since Blake is currently the only character with us, but it would also avoid potential conflict down the road between DM's by having Abe run Jason's pre-planned plot. On that note I think he is very capable of running it, its just that I think that he would have a lot more freedom and input if he were running for the new people. In the end, I would rather we didn't split up, simply because we have come so far together, and I don't want anyone to feel ostracized from the original group by being forced away from the original DM. This includes Abe, since in my previously proposed plan, he would be the only one leaving. I know that I would personally like to stay with Jason since it was originally his game. This has nothing to do with Abe's ability as a DM, if it had been his game originally, then I would have preferred to stay with him in that case. I realize that I am being a bit selfish here, but I think I have earned that right by only missing one game over the past 8 or 9 months that we have been playing this campaign. So if everyone deems it absolutely necessary that we split, then I will go along with it for the sake of the group. However, if that is the case then I vote for these squads:

Group 1:
Daria
Makibex
Sasha
Van
DM-Jason

Group 2:
Blake
Elisabeth
Kaelin
Steve
DM-Abe

Having said this, Abe, I still want you to be part of the main group with us. I will be very disappointed if you should decide you want to leave. However, under this system, it would only be by your choice that you leave. This seems to be the most fair way to accommodate two groups. It would also be the easiest for Jason to continue with his story uninterrupted. Furthermore, if Abe were to run the second, it would give him the most freedom in planning, and I think would thus be more enjoyable for him as a DM. Lastly, this would make it much easier for the second group to have a reason to travel together, since it would have been assembled entirely by Karn, rather than Karn taking one or two from the current group and a couple new ones, while trying to find a reason for new characters to travel with the original group as well.

Dark Archive

We are going to be playing as a complete group on Thursday: I guess we'll see what happens then. BTW, does anyone have a specific head count for the game? Is Everybody going to be there?

I know that Martin and I will all be there.

as will Steve and Blake
