How do you label the Item Cards? Just write on them? Does dry erase work? Use sleeves? Printed labels?
I'm trying to figure out the best way to use these that isn't time consuming or a pita, while retaining reusability of the cards. Any help would be appreciated.
We find writing with light pencil works great, but we know lots of folks like to put them in plastic sleeves with a piece of paper.

I just use little post-it notes on the back. <shrug>

I still swear by using removable labels. I cut an 8 1/2 x 11 label into a bunch of small squares. I stick those on the backs of the cards I'm using, and I write/erase, and do whatever. When it starts looking bad, I peel them off and put a new one on.
I agree with Kyle regarding removable labels. I use Avery 6467 (1/2" by 1 3/4", 80 per sheet). There's enough room on each label for name and number of charges. I preprint labels for treasure items when I'm DMing, and let the players write on the labels for items they purchase.

We've been using light pencil right on the back of the cards and it works fine. When it's a magical item I don't tell my PC's what it is and when they figure it out they write what they learn on the card.
I do this too.
In fact, being the ubergeek organizer that I am, I started a Google spreadsheet with tabs for each type of item. Then I counted up the instances of items relative to each other and broke that across the alphabet so I can label the cards with codes that I can reference later in my Super Secret DM Item Chart *tm*
For the curious, it worked out this way:
- Melee Weapons (a-d)
- Ranged Weapons (e-f)
- Armor and Shields (g-i)
- Potions (j-m)
- Rings (n-o)
- Scrolls (p-q)
- Wands (r-t)
- Staves (u)
- Rods (v)
- Wondrous Items (w-z)
So, for example, in my Scourge of the Howling Horde game:

What's a china marker? Doesn't it rub off when handling the cards?
China markers are grease pencils, you can get them at most craft stores, and in a variety of different colors. It will only rub off if you're using them to play poker or something similar. If it just sits on the table or in a character folder, then it does the job nicely.

Ditto. No problems with pencil with the exception of taking time to erase the backside of potions and scrolls. I might use labels for those just because it's faster.
