Sebastian -- I will be heading out your way in a few weeks and was thinking about meeting up with you. Shoot me an email -- moffrimmer@pcibroadband.com -- if you get a chance and I'll see if I can swing it.

One more shot -- Hey Sebastian, you there?

I need to get myself a batman spotlight or something. I don't know how many times I miss posts addressed to me when I go on a hiatus from the boards. Sounds cool Moff. I'll shoot you an email and we can set something up.

Clearly the solution is to never take a hiatus from paizo.com.

Bah. The real solution is to prioritize my petty needs for a private messaging system on the boards above all this business related nonesense like watermarks and having the server run faster. It's as if you are placing your business above my social life. Unacceptable.

I should just come up with some inane survey about the mechanics of D&D or whether paladins are better than barbarians. That would get Sebastian talking. ;-)

Don't forget to say that it's never been playtested. Them's fighting words.

Isn't that typical of WotC nowdays? ;-)

Actually, I remember James Jacobs saying that playtesting is becoming more infrequent, so it's not that uncommon.

Yeah, but my actual argument isn't about whether or not it occurs, it's about where or not you can make the statement that it has not occurred without having playtested yourself. My take is that you can make a judgment call whether something is unbalanced or problematic through a reading of the rules, but that asserting that the imbalance is so great that it implies a lack of objective testing without making an objective test oneself is absurd. It's like reading a scientific journal and saying "no way electrons behave that way, I know all about electrons and that could never happen, the person writing this did not perform an experiment testing their hypothesis." Experiments are for the purpose of testing hypothesis, and asserting that one has not been performed asserts that your own hypothesis without providing factual grounds results in a battle of talking heads.

And in a battle of talking heads, my vote is for the person talented enough to get paid for a job that most talking heads aspire to hold.

one of my problems with my favorite group, great friends though we are, is that they are quick to condemn something simply by looking at it and saying "that's way too freaking nasty!" this has ruined many a campaign before it even started, and is the reason that we don't play star wars rpg unless everyone is a jedi (because to them it's not worth playing anything else because of how nasty jedi are). then, when the DM comes up with ideas to help solve in game problems, they are just as quick to quit the game rather to play-test something.

Yup. A walk through the message boards will uncover a dozen concepts about which people screamed bloody murder (mystic theurge, warlock, war mage, duskblade, etc) that have been subsequently determined to be weak through playtesting.

it's a pity how many people want to point out everything that's wrong but have no interest in helping to fix anything.

I wouldn't call those classes weak as much as lacking in versatility (warmage, warlock) or lacking in spell power at higher levels (more so duskblade, less so mystic theurge).

I understand your point perfectly though. Lack of playtesting does sometimes lead to hasty conclusions and poor game mechanics.

Ok. Next time I will have the title be "Warforged Barbarians Unfair -- WotC Needs Playtesters"

Sorry, just haven't gotten around to responding. Will do so soon.

Edit: Dang it. I thought the missing post bug had been squashed. I saw that Cosmo posted, but can't read it.

In that case I will refrain from berating you for not responding to my very funny and completely off-topic joke.
