Symphony X--Paradise Lost

Music & Audio

So this album has been out for about a month now. I personally think it is truly a masterpiece of metal.

Anyone else have any opinions on it? (Heck, has anyone else on these boards even heard of it?)

It's been a while since I picked up anything by Paradise Lost. I have "Icon," "Draconian Times," and "One Second"... all of which are pretty good. Where, in your opinion does "Symphony X" stand in the Paradise Lost catalogue? What is the sound like?

Maybe I should just go check out a few samples for myself through their website or Amazon...

EDIT: Hmmm... just went to Amazon, and it seems I was confused... Symphony X is the band, "Paradise Lost" the album... whereas I was talking about the band "Paradise Lost"... so no, I can't say I've ever really heard of Symphony X until now... I'll go back and sample it some more, though...

Yeah, I was just about to let you know that you had the two parts confused. However, it isn't too bad of a thing because now you're going to take a look at Symphony X and I'll probably take a look at Paradise Lost.

Just took a listen on iTunes, I like! Any of their other albums compare to this, how about similar groups?

This is actually the first Symphony X album I've heard, but I've heard good things about The Odyssey, Symphony X's album before this one.

As for similar bands, iTunes recommended Dream Theater's Systematic Chaos. I picked it up used, and it's pretty good so far. I haven't listened to it all of the way through though. It has a lot of really long songs.
