Just got KQ #1 in my inbox today. Nice stuff. Wolfgang, if you're out there, great work. And thank you for taking up the challenge of providing a new venue for material we would normally see in our beloved Dragon and Dungeon.
I really liked the Derro ecology, especially that they are incantation users. I really hope we see some more incantations in future KQs. It is my favorite magic variant so far.
The new fey was cool as well.
The thing that stood out most to me was the fantastic interview with Erik. Interesting commentary on the place of Greyhawk in the history of D&D (as well as its present and future). What struck me about the interview was how much it made me think it would be great to get to just sit down and have a beer with Erik sometime. I really get the impression that a lot of this industry's greats (Gary, Monte, Wolfgang, all the Paizos) are just good people who it would be a pleasure to shoot the breeze with.
Planet Stories gets some good plugs as well (18 books lined up already). I think Erik is right about the role of sword-and-sorcery and sword-and-planet books on the formation of D&D, and it has really affected my view of the game having begun reading a lot of those titles (from appendix N and the back of Moldvay basic) in the last couple of years.
Anyway. Enough of my yakkin'. If you haven't looked into it yet, I highly recommend Kobold Quarterly.

To quote myself from the werecabbages board today:
Now this is going to get embarassing for everyone, especially me... so kindly turn your back while I kiss the skin off Wolf's backside.
KOBOLD QUARTERLY IS SICK! The articles are gamer crack, the artwork is impossibly tasteful and compelling, the comix are real deal (see you got Stan!), the fonts and layout are impeccably chosen and rendered. SICK SICK SICK.
Whatever your formula, it speaks to me. It's exactly what I want. I can't be more helpful with my comments than that.
I didn't know how I was going to feel about a .pdf (because I'd prefer hardcopy) but I'm already slavering for your next issue so I guess I have my answer.

Glad you like it. There will be more incantations and other magic variants in future issues, plus new monsters and yes, interviews. I think most of the designers, artists, and publishers in the RPG world are characters, to say the least, and have great stories to tell.
So, I'm getting out the microphone. Maybe not every issue, but often. It's something that I know WotC won't do, but eventually I hope for an interview with Gary Gygax, Dave Arneson, Monte, you know the list. Plus artists like Todd Lockwood and Wayne Reynolds. At 4 issues per year, I figure I can do these for the next decade and not run out of worthy subjects.

Is it possible to get this thing hardcopy? I know you were looking into it. If so I'd like to keep the PDF actually, because this art looks insane backlit, and also get a paper version. If you've already looked into pricing what would something like that cost?
EDIT: Ah... it says so on page one. If I just pay the upgrade cost, I guess you'll know I'm already a subscriber and all will work out.

You can get individual PDFs of Kobold Quarterly right here on paizo.com. We'll also be offering ongoing subscriptions in the near future, and, of course, Wolfgang is offering annual subscriptions on his own site.

I sent them an e-mail about this as well. I'd certainly like a PDF if it came with the hard copy price, but I'm really only interested in a hard copy. How does one subscribe to get hard copy and how can I get a hard copy of this first issue!?!?!
Also, will the hard copy be identical to the PDF? In other words, hopefully there will not be reduced content in the hard copy to save space / cut down costs ...
Thanks!
