Need Help With PHB II Spell....

Specifically, Legion of Sentinels. IIRC its a Soc/Wiz 3 illusion spell that creates a small squad of swordsmen in one place (I don't have my copy handy). It states that the swordsmen can make one AOO a round, have AC 25, and I forget how many hits, but it doesn't say what bonus to hit or damage they have. Can they make a regular attack on your round? Does anyone have a clearer idea of the particulars of this spell? Thank you for your time.

Silver Crusade

That's a fantastic question. I decided to check the spell entry myself, and they seem to have left those "minor details" out. Shame on you, WotC. It may come out in an errata, but it might be worthing submitting the question to Wizards customer service. At the very least, it would be fun to watch them squirm to come up with an answer.

(I will say that, since the spell specifies they make AoO's and provide flanking bonuses, they probably do not have an initiative and cannot make regular attacks unless someone provokes the AoO.)

Well, since the spell /does/ explicitly state what they /can/ do (make 1 AoO per round) and what they can't (block line of effect, hinder movement, block terrain), it's a safe bet they can't do anything else.

As for attack bonus, I'd suggest since the spell says they make "saving throws and checks" with a bonus equal to your caster level, that their attack bonus is the same. Also, considering the limits of the spell, either let the mage choose the sword (any 1 handed sword), or just go with a longsword for damage.

I checked and couldn't find any errata for the PH2. Alas.

I think Xellan's solution works pretty well. It seems like this is what was intended, as well as can be gleaned from the spell's text. Still, I'd take Celestial Healer's advice and send this off to Wizard's product support. If nothing else it might "remind" them to put out errata on PH II.

Over on the Wizards Boards, there is a thread with a stack of answers from Customer Service about the PHB2, you can find it here

About the Legion of Sentinels spell, it says

"WotC Customer Service wrote:

How does the Legion of Sentinels spell work? Is the short description accurate that they do 1d8 +1/three caster levels damage? Is this damage affected by damage reduction? What is the attack bonus? Can the swordsmen make regular attacks or only attacks of opportunity?

The swordsmen’s attacks are at a bonus equal to your caster level, they threaten critical hits on a 19 or 20, and they deal 1d8 points of slashing damage +1 per three caster levels (max +5). They only make attacks of opportunity, and their weapon damage is slashing and is affected by damage reduction.

I think it is a pretty reasonable solution.
