Vecna lives!

The Exchange

A mildly interesting article in itself (see link), but I was struck by the name of the company in the last couple of paragraphs.

Strange, I wonder if its pure coincidence?
or does 'Vecna' have roots im unaware of? I always thought it was a purely invented name, but now I wonder if its derived from somewhere...

The Exchange

I suspect that the robot/computer geeks who run Vecna the company also probably play or played D&D. Vecna as a name doesn't (unless someone out there knows better and can correct me) have any antecedence prior to D&D.

I searched and searched, and you have to be right, look at the quote I found on wikipedia

"Vecna was created by Brian Blume in the original D&D supplement Eldritch Wizardry in 1976. The name Vecna is an anagram of Jack Vance, the fantasy author whose "fire-and-forget" magic system is the default magic system used in Dungeons & Dragons."

D&D geeks rule!

Grand Lodge

"Fire and forget" - nice!

I suppose the good folks over at Vecna didn't particularly care for the follow-up module Die, Vecna, die!...

Now you're gonna tell me there's a North Central Positronics, too.
