I appreciate all the info you're giving us on the new Pathfinder. As a long-time subscriber to both Dungeon and Dragon, I'm going to miss the mags but I'm looking forward to seeing what you put together in the new format. I have one burning question, though:
Why no advertisements?
Honestly, I like the ads in the mags. I learn about new products on the market that might interest me. As smaller niche publications, the ads are obviously targeted towards the interests of the subscribers. I find out about a lot of cool stuff through the mags that I never would know about otherwise.
I say go ahead and do some ads in the new books. Lower the price, or increase the quality or quantity of the content! Not only do the ads not bother me, they'd be welcome (assuming they're for relevant products of course - you can pass on any "hairclub for men" ads =) ).

Granted, I could be wrong seeing as how I'm not an employee of Paizo . . . but the reason that there isn't going to be any ads in Pathfinder is that it's a book rather than a magazine.
You wouldn't want an advertisement in the middle of your PHB, or a novel . . . so therefore you shouldn't expect an ad in pathfinder.

And, I think, more importantly, as an advertiser, you don't get a lot of value for that ad. It's not just that people don't want it in a book, it's that advertisers don't see books as an optimal medium for selling their products and won't pay Paizo the cost of printing those pages with their ads.
When was the last time you saw an ad in a book? If they were profitable, you had better believe they would be there, just as they are in the beginning of movies, on bus sides, on benches, etc, etc, etc.
