Sneak Attack Question

3.5/d20/OGL

Hello all I was wondering is the Sneak Attack only the first attack? Or if you can attack more then once you can Sneak Attack more then once? Where does it say this in the PHB I don’t see it anywhere. And if it doesn’t say, how do you rule it in your games and why? And what are good arguments for having more then one Sneak Attack because I think my Rouge should have more then one. Thanks ahead of time this is for my game I’m playing tonight so any response will be very helpful.

From the FAQ:

If a rogue gets multiple attacks in a round (such as from a high base attack bonus or the Rapid Shot feat), can she make sneak attacks for all of them?

Yes, but only if each attack meets a requirement to be a sneak attack. For instance, a rogue who flanks an enemy can deliver a sneak attack with every melee attack she makes. A rogue under the effect of a greater invisibility spell treats every attack as a sneak attack, since she remains invisible despite attacking.

If later attacks in a round no longer meet any requirement to be a sneak attack, they aren’t sneak attacks. For example, a rogue under the effect of an invisibility spell would deal sneak attack damage only with her first attack in a round, because she turns visible as soon as she makes the attack.

I would suggest going to the Wizards site and downloading the D&D FAQ. It answers this question in some detail. The answer is yes, you get sneak dice for any attack for which your target is denied their Dex bonus.

And it's "Rogue" :)

I would also like to add for clarification that while you can get multiple uses of sneak attack in a round like the others said, you cannot have more than one instance of sneak attack damage in a "volley". A "volley" like scorching ray or the multishot feat only allows for sneak attack damage on one of the hits, not for each instance.

Also, according to RAW, a creature is considered flat-footed until it's turn in the initiative order of the first round of combat. If your rogue lies in wait for something to walk into melee range and then launches a flurry of attacks (through two-weapon fighting and/or iterative attacks from high BAB), the creature is flat-footed for all of them until it's action, meaning that all of the attacks would be sneak attacks.
