QUESTION: How are guys statting up the iconics -- Point buy? If so 25, 28, 32? Thanks!

Elite array: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8.

Can I make a request that elite array NOT be used to stat up the iconics? Please use either a point buy method or random rolling for stats. Either way will make each iconic more "unique." Elite array is a little underwhelming and well....overdone.

Not meant as a criticism by any means. I just really enjoy seeing a character in print (or artwork of that character) and then seeing a "surprise" in his printed stats. Like...when a fighter has a high wisdom score, or when an NPC has a noticeably high or low constitution score, for example. I think it leads to more individuality and story crunch when a character is more than just an arrangement of the elite array.

What does everyone else think? Agree? Disagree?

Disagree.

Elite array is generally used to represent the balanced stats for a balanced party in relation to the overall CRs/ELs involved in any particular encounter. I doubt the iconics are going to be the playtest characters for the adventure path, but in essence, they are supposed to represent the ideal party that goes through the adventure.

They aren't just NPCs...and in fact, the design staff mentioned earlier that these iconics will be included as potential "quick-start" characters in the event the players or GM don't want to roll up their own. So, in that regard, they definitely need to be balanced with the overall adventure itself.

So elite array, please...

My two-cents,

Yes but there are other ways around this right? I agree it is somewhat (miniscule because it is unlikely my players will not make their own heroes) unfortunate that all the iconics will have the same abilities before racial adjustments and all will have an 8 stat. They could have simply used the point buy that is equivalent to the elite array and inserted a little variation, while still garnering the same 'power level' of the characters.

No biggie either way. Just a thought.

Question for you all on this thread...
Will you all be using the pregenerated PCs that much that the stats are going to be an issue?

I had assumed that they would get used once in a while for pick up games, maybe nights when a group is taking a break from their regular campaign, etc. They're cool to have available, but how many people will be using them on a regular basis rather than using their own characters?

At any rate, I believe the elite array equates to a 25 point buy. A simple solution for those that use higher point buys is just allow the PCs to adjust any of their scores that are between 12-15 by 1 or 2. You could also allow them to move those 8s up to a 9 or 10.

Just my thoughts.

In my group, no one will use the iconics as written if they are elite array cookie cutter characters. Not really a problem - their stats can always be adjusted or completely redone to suit individual tastes. I'm not requesting that their power levels be jacked up - I would just like to see a unique set of stats for each iconic (and yes, having them all be roughly the same power level is certainly desirable).

Just my two cents. I'm really looking forward to the Pathfinder adventures and all of the iconics either way.

Yes, the ranger is an archer. And I'm a little baffled by the comment that "Anyone can make an archery ranger." Can't anyone also make a two-weapon ranger?

What... after Drizzt and then the 2nd ed ranger doesn't everyone?

Personally, I'm glad you're going the archer route--nice to see a ranger that doesn't dual-wield at least once in twenty years. ;)
