So I'm going to be a first-time attendee at this year's GenCon, but there's one thing I haven't been able to determine based on their website. How much do event tickets typically cost? Are there free RPG events? Also, do you generally need to sign up for these in advance, or can you sign up on-site? Okay, so that was three things.

Games are happening for free all over the place. Company booths are running free or really cheap demos of stuff in the main hall, but outside in the halls, lobbies, skywalks, etc there are groups everywhere. Just sidle up to a table and ask if they need another player and GO! Last year, the only 'free' thing that I didn't sign up for and totally missed was the Costume show (or whatever its called). You will think because it is free you dont have to register...go do this as soon as you arrive or you will be sorry and have to stand in a waiting line till all the ticketholders are seated and then MAYBE get a seat. Buy some 'generic' tickets to get into a few official games and a True Dungeon/True Hero ticket to go thru that. Those are the most expensive (30someodd $$$).
