"Select" Back Issues

Customer Service

One of the transition options is "select back issues" - apparently to be decided upon later. What does this mean exactly? Which back issues are we talking about?

I have had subscriptions to Dungeon and Dragon for many years, so I don't need any recent back issues, but I might want some of the older ones if they are being offered. The other part of it is that I just re-subscribed to both magazines for three-year stints, so after receiving all the remaining new issues of both magazines, I have 51 issues worth of credit here.

Are there going to be 51 different back issues available to me? Do they predate the Paizo era?

My thinking is that I've set aside this money for Dungeon and Dragon magazines and I'd rather it go to that. The completionist in me would love to fill in some gaps in my collection, particularly in the early years. I can pick up a subscription to Pathfinder, if I decide to, seperately. But I don't want to be stuck getting duplicate back issues just because that's what my "selection" is limited to.

I guess what I need to know is, what do you mean by "select back issues" and will I know what the selections availble are in time to make a decision on transitioning to those or Pathfinder?

We'll try to get this up sooner rather than later, but I can tell you it's a subset of the issues currently available as back issues in the store section of paizo.com.

To be honest, I suspect that, given your circumstance, you'll almost certainly want to choose one of the other options.

Hi Roland:

There may be a few pre-Paizo issues available for this trade-in of money owed, but not too many. The list of back issues depends on how many copies of each issue we have in stock. Since we usually don't have more than a couple of copies of pre-Paizo issues, it is more than likely to be mostly made up on Paizo issues, with a handfull of pre-Paizo issues thrown in for good measure. I don't expect that any pre-3rd edition issues will make the cut.

Just wanted to say thank you for clearing away some of my lingering questions about this issue. You've made my decision making problem smuch less difficult now!

Iam curious about 2 things to do with back issues :
1 If I select issues ( I have 25 to choose), in the Paizo era, what issue of dragon did that start?
2 Will the issues be sent as a 25 issue package, or are they being sent month, by month?

Paizo's first issues were Dragon 299 and Dungeon 94.

We'll ship the back issues in a single package.

Hmm, that causes a question to arise then. I have 10 issues of credit, but I started getting a subscription again soon after Paizo began publishing the magazines...specifically at Dragon #302 and Dungeon #97, though I'm missing Dungeon #105. Counting all those up I have 7 Paizo issues to pick up. If there aren't any pre-Paizo issues available to me after grabbing those 7 (assuming they're available), can I transfer the remainder to Pathfinder?

Allowing people to apply some credit to one choice and some to another would complicate things more than we're comfortable with (both behind the scenes and on the user interface side), so you must make exactly one choice. You'll be able to see the available issues before you have to commit to your decision, though. (And, as Lisa said, there probably will be a few pre-Paizo issues in the mix.)

Okay, thanks. I'll stick with the back issues option for now until I see what is available. I might change over to full Pathfinder at that time if I can't use everything, but for now I'd prefer to try to add more to the back issue collection.
