A Sorcerer...a WIZARD?!?

Hail Adventurers! It's me once again! My Half-Brother is a Sorcerer and was wondering if he should train in becoming more of a Wizard, so as he may cast stronger spells, yet have the cantrips as useful little "back-ups".
SO! Anyway, what should Magus do?! And why? (Personally, I think having more spells at low level for now is very useful. Oh! And do they stack?)

I wouldn't do it unless I was going for the Ultimate Magus class from the Complete Mage, which would advance both Sorcerer and Wizard in spell casting. If he's not going for that it would just seem like it's putting my high level spells farther out of reach.

I would suggest you stick with straight sorcerer. Sorcerer and wizard spell casting do NOT stack. AS a general rule, it is a very BAD idea to multiclass with casters as you lose caster levels, whcih is what casters are all about.

Look at it like this, a Wizard 3, Sorc 3 can only cast 2nd level spells (true, an aweful lot of them), whicle a Sorcerer or Wizard 6 can cast thrid level spells (and at a higher caster level to boot).

As others said. Caster classes need to be careful with multiclassing, usually couple of levels can be spent to another class though...and in that case another caster class is typically a bad idea (unless you are going for some prestige class like Mystic Theurge).
Sorcerer or wizard with couple of levels of cleric might still be a tolerable choice as that would open up loads of new spells (and magic items), and some of those domain powers can be pretty nifty...but sorcerer with wizard levels is just not worth it.

I second Fizzban's suggestion. If your half-brother wants to play a sorcerer/wizard get a copy of Complete Mage and look at the ultimate magus. He'll never have the power of a straight sorcerer or wizard, but he'll have tremendous versatility and be able to cast a hell of a lot of spells. Of course, if he only wants a couple of levels in one of the classes then the prestige class is not for him.
