Help please with maps!

Shackled City Adventure Path

I've been trying to print out the maps to scale for use as miniature maps but I can't seem to get them to print the right size, no matter how much I change the image size or zoom or whatever. With the STAP maps they are on PDF and it's easy to make that work from a PDF but for some reason from a jpg or bmp it just won't print out correctly. I also have no programs which would allow me to create a PDF.

Does anyone have or know where I can get PDFs of the SCAP maps? I wish paizo had made PDF maps like they are doing with STAP! Those are great.

thanks in advance,
Darren

PS. I've looked on theRPGenius site and the maps are only in PDF format (at least where I am which is Drakthar's Way.)

Darren,

have you looked at freeware PDF converters like Cute PDF or Go2PDF

If that doesn't work, you could try some free imaging programs like Gimp

This won't help you as far as PDF problems, but it's a possible alternative:

I took a rather labor-intensive route that ended up working quite well. I downloaded the maps from RPGenius, then opened them in MS Paint. I used stretch/skew to get them to the right size (at points actually putting a ruler up to the screen to check my proportions). Then I cut out page-size chunks and printed each one out seperately. Finally, I taped them to some cardboard, usually one or two rooms to a piece.

This has actually worked out really well for me, and the maps look great.

I tried the same thing but even when I measure the screen and I was getting exactly what I wanted (1" squares), after I printed it out the size was off. I have no idea why.

Thanks, I actually did this and it worked. I still think I have to conclude that printing out the maps is not very cost effective because it used a LOT of ink.

that's true. Your best option may be to use the scap maps as player handouts and use a dry-erase battlemap for your battles.

I may have to go to Tact-tiles because I'd like to have the maps ready beforehand and our regular map is one of the chessex variety and stays at the house where we game (not my house).

Tact-tiles are a great option if you can get them. Unfortunately they have been out of production for a long time now, and there's no telling when they'll be back. I was looking into some alternatives a couple of months ago and found steel squire's flip mats. The cool thing is they fold into a phb-sized package you can carry together with your books.
