Hey everyone, when I do a literal reading of the rules it appears that whenever my character takes a first level in a new class I get the x4 skill points boost. Is this right? I sorta understand the initial bunch of skills as a reflection of your life up to that point. It seems a bit odd that after a few levels of fighter all of a sudden I get oodles of skill points by taking a level in Rogue.

As those before me have written, at 1st character level only you get the x4 skill points. So, a 1st level fighter gets (2+Int Mod)x4 Skill points. If he takes rogue as his second level, he gains 8+Int Mod skill points, not (8+Int Mod)x4, even if it is his first level as rogue. It is his 2nd character level, and for skill points, that is what counts. Only for 1st level/HD you get the skill point boost. The classes descriptions can be a bit confusing here.

That's good! Thanks to everyone responding... Like I said, it makes more sense to assume the x4 skill points being applied only to first character level. The confusion for me came from reading "skill points at first level".
Does anyone have a Core Book page reference that I could site? I'm having this "discussion" with some friends.
Thanks again.

Look up this website - each and every one of the class descriptions explicitly say "skill points at 1st level" and "skill points at each additional level". And, since you are 1st level only once...
