Map making clips

Dungeon Magazine General Discussion

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of Chris West's map art. No dig meant at the other cartographers, but his clean and crisp style appeals to my aesthetics.

I've been hoping for a series of master class or tutorial-like articles to get the low-down on how he does it. Since that doesn't seem to be making an appearance, I was wondering if anyone had any good art resources they could share that would be similar to his style.

Any thoughts?

For an example, here's a thread I found on another site where a user gives a good tutorial on making some floor plans with enough class to be used as battlemats.

I'm especially interested, though, in cityscape and wilderness content/clips. I'd like to make a picture of my PC's hometown and can't seem to get any more detail than square buildings and straight roads.

I really like the concept - though maybe another cartigrapher would be a better choice. West seems really busy these days and has significant obligations. If we insist that its West or no one we might bot get anywhere with an idea like this. Anyway I'd like to see this sort of thing maybe mixed in with Wolfgang Baurs articles. Say run them a couple of times a year maybe.
