Dalelands Adventures

Dungeon Magazine General Discussion

Can anybody help me? I'm running a campaign in the dalelands region of the forgotten realms, using Dragon adventures. I'm currently running 'Within the circle', which will be followed by 'The raiders of Galath's Roost'. This should take the characters up to about 3rd level, and I am looking for some advise on what to run after this.

I'm looking for adventures for roughly 3rd level characters set in the Dalelands, but sorrounding areas, such as Cormyr or Sembia will also suffice. Any advise on what to run later in my campaign would also be great.

You might try:
"The Door From Everywhere" (level 3, #88)
"Forest of Blood" (level 5, #103)
"Tears For Twilight Hollow" (level 7, 90).
Those adventures are FR specific and might help you, though I can't remember exactly where they were set.

They're not from Dungeon, but if you can find them on ebay, The Sword of The Dales trilogy takes place right in the level range you're talking about. They're older 2E modules, but can very easily be converted on the fly.

Isn't there a nice new Dalelands campaign for 4th level characters coming up this month? It starts in Cormyr but heads back up again, if I remember the blurb..

Careful with that one: the table of content says "level 3", but the introductory text says "for 6th-level characters". And the ELs throughout the adventure do indeed seem to be cut more for 6-th level characters.

Yep. I think you have "Cormyr: the Tearing of the Weave" in mind. It is for 4th-level characters, starts around Wheloon.

It is the first module of a three "super-adventures" campaign published by WotC. The best FR authors currently active are working on these modules and they are all coming out this year (Mach -> June -> November).

Skip Williams has written 3 adventures in the Dalelands. After Galath's Roost, there was one set in Mistledale for 8th level IIRC, and one set in Archendale.

There are some old 1e and 2e adventures as well ... there was one about a banshee set near Myth Drannor. There was one involving some hags and tasloi set near Lake Sember as well.

Outside of Dungeon, you might look at the old Draconomicon [1e], for an adventure set between Shadowdale and Mistledale.

There's an adventure I wrote set in Essembra in Serpent Kingdoms.

There's an adventure locale, the Wyvernstones, that's either in Faith & Pantheons or in the web enhancement that I wrote.

Skip's adventures:
"The Raiders of Galath’s Roost" (Dungeon #87)
"Woe to Mistledale" (Dungeon #100)
"Secrets of the Arch Wood" (Dungeon #121)
Though Jeff Grubb's non-Realms-set "Playing with Fire" in #82 feels more like the Realms than they do.

Outside Dungeon, also set in the Dales:
FRQ1 Doom of Daggerdale
"Felled Hopes" in Ruins of Zhentil Keep
FRC2 Curse of the Azure Bonds
City of the Spider Queen
"The Dread Lair of Alokkair" in REF5 Lords of Darkness
"The Halls of the Beast-Tamers" and "Lashan's Fall" in Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (1987)
Ruins of Myth Drannor
"Tower of Life and Tomb of Death"

Also look out Ed Greenwood's encounter "The Whistling Skeleton" in Dragon #200; CM8 The Endless Stair; "Fang, Beak, and Claw" on wizards.com.

Lots more if you broaden out to Cormyr.

If you open it up to generic low level Dungeon adventures that would fit into the Dalelands locale, you'll have a lot more options. Nicolas Logue wrote an adventure a few years ago called "Cry Wolf", I believe, that would very well fit the region. It's the one about poachers and spotted blue wolves. All you really need is a town, a festival, farmlands and a forest. It's in the Dungeon issue with Zenith Trajectory. I believe it's for 2nd level PCs.
