They're saying it's possible that Dahmer may have been involved in the kids abduction way back in the early 80's. Also, as I recall, Dahmer wasn't executed. He was beaten to death with a broom handle by another prisoner.
I no longer try to figure out the answer to the question, "Why would he lie?" People have their own rather complex reasons, reasons that often do not adhere to simple logic and pattern.
It was a child. That may have been a reason, in his mind, to lie about it. Many of these killers start with animals... something small. The fact that Dahmer was a prime suspect at the time and that two sane eyewitnesses IDed him; one was pursued to the very spot where Adam disappeared and the other saw Dahmer holding a kid up with one arm in the parking lot as the kid said, "I'm not going!" I'd say lends extreme credence to this theory. John Walsh himself thinks that this needs direction needs to be taken seriously. The police believed Dahmer because he said he didn't have access to a car so how could he get a kid out of the mall but his own boss at the mall says all employees had liberal access to the blue company van.
He wasn't executed he was manbeaten to death. A sudden and unexpected predation. How fitting. From wikipedia.org:
Dahmer served his time at the Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin, where it is claimed he became more and more religious over time and ultimately declared himself a born-again Christian. On November 28, 1994, Dahmer and another inmate named Jesse Anderson were brutally beaten to death by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver while on work detail in the prison gym. According to popular but apocryphal reports of the incident, Dahmer was sodomized with a broom handle. In fact, this did not occur, and Dahmer died from severe head trauma. He did not die immediately, but rather in the ambulance en route to the hospital.
Much controversy surrounded both the decision to allow Dahmer such a privilege as work detail, as well as the pairing of Dahmer with Scarver, a man with a history of brutality who was incarcerated for murder.[citation needed] The fact that Scarver was black (and that most of Dahmer's victims were black) did not escape note by critics. Before his murder, Dahmer escaped a previous attempt on his life. After attending a church service in the prison chapel, an inmate took a razor blade and tried to slash Dahmer's throat. Dahmer escaped the incident with superficial wounds.
This is my greatest nightmare.
I read the beginning of the thread at work, and my wife was taking my kids to the park, and I just wanted to go home.
What the hell is wrong with these people? Kids don't do anything.
I wish we could just remove such levels of aggression from the human genome. Okay, maybe a eugenic minded statement, but I'll take an uber mensch over a Dahmner anyday.
Or we could just Clockwork Orange these guys and play Beethoven's ninth all day and night long.
I'm always flabberghasted to see how many internet predators are out there... Everytime I watch that show on TV (To Catch a Predator) they catch about ten to fifteen per episode.
That's one camera crew, one investigating/reporting team, ONE town. Now imagine how many guys like this they would catch if EVERY police department in EVERY city had a team like this.
Then again, WHY doesn't every city have a team like this? What's wrong here...

I don't know. Walsh didn't even seem too excited about this. Not that he didn't want it looked into, but that he didn't want to invest too much in this. I'm not saying there isn't anything to it, but one thing that concerns me about this is this:
The author admits that he looked at the Dahmer connention and then worked backwards from that. Essentially, that is a bit of a different process then seeing that the evidence might lead TO him, and its easier under those circumstances to look for what might make it look likely than not.
I haven't read the book, so it may be a compelling case, I'm just saying that the sensationalism of the whole concept might make it easy to jump between points that aren't as clearly connected as they might be.

Back on topic. I'm not one to believe sensationalism but I think this story has legs enough to merit consideration.
