Treachery in the ranks

Scarab Sages

In the preview that was in Dungeon 138 it spoke of treachery and madness among their ranks in HTBM. Have I missed something or was there a change in the story line?

Is anyone aware of what that reference meant?

I don't think there's anything official in HTBM; I suspect you're right that it got dropped in development.

However, The Black Bard had an awesome suggestion in another thread, that I may use when the time comes.

That was a change in the storyline; originally, one of the NPCs traveling with the PCs was going to secretly side with Olangru and work against the PCs, but that element never quite made it to the final adventure.

That's what I thought. Thanks.

I'm getting ready to run the seige of Farshore in ToD, I'm planning on Tavey turning traitor, having been a plant by Vanthus, and open up a breach in the islands defenses, and maybe have him back stab the PC that has taken under his wing (Literaly). The group has gone to alot of trouble to equip him, and I have another NPC that I've set up to look like a possible traitor. I had Tavey bought as a slave for the captain of the ship. He isn't happy about being owned, and has been stealing everything that he can get his hands on to buy himself out of bond, but the player running the captain treats him like he's her pet, and I've made it clear that there is growing resentment. I'll wait until the height of the battle to spring this on the group. *Evil Laugh*

Very nice! Very nice touch indeed... especially as long as you've made the "growing resentment" part crystal clear. I know from unfortunate personal experience some time in the past that if a DM who turns every loveable NPC into a threat, then pretty soon the PCs are summarily killing everyone they meet who's not a member of the party, which kinda cuts down on the role-playing options.

IMC, Tavey was very happy to reach Farshore and get away from my PCs, but that's a story we won't get into here :)

Why do I just know that the best response is NOT to ask Erik any further questions...;)
