Age of Worms Adventure Path

Its over. The Age of Worms has come and gone, ushering in the Dawn of a New Age and ultimately A Savage Tide (which I am a player in). Details of the end game ca be read in the Campaign Journal section by yours truly.

I cant understate the impact this campaign had on my favorite hobby – gaming. I made some errors along the way, but I learned a great deal, improved my gaming skills, and above all I think we all had fun.

This is likely the last time I will run a D&D campaign in its 3.5 rendition, so thanks to all at Paizo magazine whom produce such great and memorable adventures, thanks to all of you on the message boards for the insight bonuses :) , and thanks to all my players who helped make this epic journey come to fruition.

Cogratulations! Its quite a momentous thing to complete the whole path...almost a year's worth a game time! I hope to be joining you soon as my players are 2-3 sessions away from facing Kyuss. Good luck with Savage Tide, I am playing it in myself.. (Haven't died yet! Crossing fingers!)

Thanks Rak....I noticed that our campaigns have been running virtually neck-and-neck. That makes it very interesting since our encounters are still fresh in our minds or just about to take place.

We're running a bit behind (just ready to start Wormcrawl Fissure), but I'm eager to bring it to an end. Not because I haven't enjoyed the AP--quite the contrary--but because my players are itching to play Savage Tide. (Every time we game now, they talk about the character's they're building for a campaign starting in, probably, two months!) I've taken this as a very good sign, however, as it shows how reliable and enjoyable one Paizo AP can be, so the next should be as well.

Good luck in the new AP. I tried to pass the DM chair for Savage Tide to another, but none would take it up. Well, looks like I get another go at it! See ya on the boards!

I am getting itchy for the end as well, though as the previous post said, not because I have not enjoyed the AP, but because it is such a cool set of adventures that build up (the last 6 adventures that is).

I unfortunetly made the descion to run Savage Tides myself, as the one player who GM's was on the fence about it, and I was not wanting to have him start reading them, then decide he did not want to run them, and be left with him (one of two players I run with most often) not be able to play in the AP. So no PC'ing for me for another year or two. Oh well.

On the plus side I have started foreshadowing the Savage Tides in my AoW campaign.

I, too, am about to start Into the Wormcrawl Fissure. I can't tell you how much I've learned about adventure design, pacing, and so forth. I can tell you that this is the first time I've successfully run adventures past about level 12 or so, and it's been going really well. Even so, I'm looking forward to the respite I expect when we drop back to level 1 for the next campaign. (Which will not be Savage Tide, by the way, because they've expressed an interest in shorter campaigns that let them change out characters more often - go figure. But I'll find a chance to run Savage Tide somehow, eventually...)

Our group started the Age of Worms path in November of 2005, and although for a while we were pretty much completing an adventure a month, it took us about 2 months to complete Kings of the Rift. High level fights really take a lot of time, and we haven't mastered the skills to get them to go faster. Plus, bad guys keep getting away and requiring re-matches (they fought two different NPCs three different times in this adventure).

I'd like some idea of how long these last two adventures should take, proportionately. For those who've made it all the way through, how long did it take your groups for each of the last three adventures?

I planned for a month (four 6-8 hour sessions) per magazine. Thats pretty much how it worked out for us. I can see how it could easily take longer, however.

When all is said & done, I'm thinking 200 hours of prep went into AoW. Started early summer of 2005 and will finish this coming Saturday hopefully. The party is approaching the base of the spire, ready for some of that sweet, sweet Kyuss action!

To add to the session, my wife is baking up a storm, we bought a bunch of toy weaponry to swing around, all 7 players can make it out, and I've picked up mini-trophies to give out at the end of the AP (ex. "Most Improved Roleplayer" & "Most Dirt Naps" awards, etc.). Throw in a liberal amount of adult beverages & a deepfrier though, and this session is just as likely to end in a fire... :-/

Really, really looking forward to this...it's been a good time and as you've all mentioned, my players are excited about Savage Tide too. It'll be fun to participate as a player this time around.

Can you tell I'm excited? Can you? CAN YOU?!?!?
