Would have suited issue 143 better then a dozen dino pics :)
Not meaning the picture of the huge t-rex, which is excellent and neccassary to show.
...grumpy me...
Perhaps... but then again, the Isle of Dread is ABOUT dinosaurs, this adventure more than any other in the 12-part series, so the look of the adventure required dinosaurs more than his illo.
More to the point, we have to write art orders for adventures about a month before we start to develop them; it's just the way the scheduling of the magazine goes. And if I remember correctly, the original draft of the backdrop, Manthalay played a MUCH smaller role. The political elements of the backdrop didn't appear until I developed them into the backdrop. Manthalay wasn't even a Meravanchi until this point, if I recall right. So by the time he developed into a significant character, the art order was already a month into the process of becoming art.
Were I doing the art order today, I'd probably have cut the picture of Lefty the pirate and done one of Manthalay instead. I certainly wouldn't have cut the dinosaur illos. Those sidebars look awesome.

Yeah, Lefty would have been the one to cut. He isn't even that interesting of a pirate beyond his missing limb and I mean, come on, pirates are always depicted with big pieces of wood in place of limbs. The dinosaurs do look awesome; I love the bright color palette of this adventure path. It fits with the tropical theme really well and provides some room for stark contrast when the characters reach the darker and more foreboding areas of the campaign.

Ok i am now fully convinced of the right of the dinos to be present as illustrations, and they look good, but i am missing the illustrations for NPCs who i have to show to the players and whom they do a lot of interaction with. But i guess you understand. Lefty in my opinion will take about 10 minutes of gametime. But hey, everyone deserves 10 mins of fame :)
Anyway, thanks for the reply, you guys are most helpful as allways!
