In Keith Baker's Eberron conversion notes for AoW, he states the following:
"Find the town of Moonwatch at the western edge of the Hilt, and follow the trade road to the northeast. When the road reaches the Dagger River, you will find yourself at Diamond Lake, high above the waters of the Dagger. On a clear day you can see the towers of Sharn—which serves in place of the Free City—to the southeast."
I'm having trouble figuring out exactly where "the road reaches the Dagger River". The precise spot where it actually reaches the river is a town called Galethspyre. That's too far away, as I think I read somewhere that Diamond Lake is only about 85 miles from Sharn/Free City.
So I'm thinking that I should put Diamond Lake in that spot on the map where there's a narrow open space between the river to the east and a forest to the west. That's the closest I can see the trade road coming to reaching the river without actually being another city (though it's still well over 85 miles). Does that sound good?
Also, is the lake between the town and the river, or is the river between the town and the lake? Is my party going to have to travel north to Galethspyre to cross the Dagger River when they go to Sharn, or is there a better way?

I put Diamond Lake just a bit north of that location, here the river bends (in the Campaign setting, it's where the 'gg' in Dagger touch the East side of the River). I put Blackwall Keep in the vicinity of the area you're currently thinking of.

Thanks, that sounds good. But shouldn't Blackwall Keep be on the other side of the river, near the King's Forest?

I placed Diamond Lake on the cliffs on the opposite side of the Dagger from Sharn. Regular ore shippments are made by ferry to Sharn.
I placed Blackwall keep near the village of Mistmarsh (near Sterngate). The Five Nations sourcebook describes a swamp the borders the nearby forest (called Mistmarsh swamp). It helps that the forest has an active portal to the plane Mabar (spelling?).
