James,
On page 42 of "There Is No Honor" in the room-descritpion text for room "D31. Rowyn's Lounge (EL6)" you described, "[A] crystal ball with a smokey red light at its core," yet there's nothing further about it in the "treasure" section.
So what was it supposed to be when you wrote the room description?
I have a player who has fallen for it and can't wait to find out what it is and what it might do...any suggestions you might give that might really pay off down the road in a later adventure would be cool.
Thanks.

I recall this question came up before, awhile ago. I've found the relevant thread in the archive:
What's That in the Background?
In summary, it's basically just the fantasy equivalent of a lava lamp.
EDIT: Don't look at that thread. I'd completely forgotten that it included an absolutely terrible attempt at a pun from me.

MarkB, thanks for the link. And your warning about the pun fell on deaf ears, I'm afraid. ;)
Okay, so it's a lava lamp.
But what COULD it be then, that might come up later in a adventure down the road? Anyone got any fun ideas?
It's a Lava Lamp of Love! When activated, it grants a +4 enhancement bonus to Charisma to all within it's range and a +2 circumstance bonus to Diplomacy and Bluff checks if being used for an act of seduction. The effect has a radius of 20 feet.

The glowing red core is congealed demon blood. If the crystal ball is broken and the blood injested it has a magical genetic reaction with the character that cuases him or her to develop some kind Abyssal qualiities, which translates to an Abyssal heritiage feat of some sort.

Or maybe the core cotains red dragon boogers. Those are always fun, they make agreat spell component for fire spells. There are three doses in the crystal and each one adds a maximize metamagic feat to fire based magic, but the booger is used up in the casting. Nothing like a booger powered meteor swarm to liven up someone's day.
