...well, not really, but my party did hand him his butt on a silver platter. Lucky for them he fumbled his falchion, and before he could pick it up, the psion hit him with an energy stun, and he failed his save, otherwise things might not have been so rosy. I rolled three ones in a row. I'm retiring that particular die.

In my game, he went down like some sort of regular mook. It didn't help that my entire party had silver weapons becaues of Drakathar in the adventure before. I remember playing in the playtest for this adventure when we didn't ahve Drakathar's Way in between and Tongueeater was tough, tough, tough, because none of us had silver (or magic for that matter) weapons. But all it takes is one raging barbarian with a silver sickle getting a crit and...one ex-Tongueeater. :)

Wow. From what I've heard, Tongueeater usually kicks massive p.c. butt. They lucked righteously.

After the session, I kept looking at Tongueater's stats and thinking, man, those guys were darn lucky. And you're right, Heathensson--now they're all cocky. Especially since they managed to avoid the fight with the Stormblades, who swaggered into the Tipped Tankard one evening to try to start a fight. My party traded a few insults with them and then the rogue got up on the table and very sarcastically presented the entire tavern with "Cauldron's Heroes". And the Stormblades got a light smattering of applause and uproarious laughter, because my crew are regulars at the Tipped Tankard, and all the other regulars know who the real heroes are. They left quite miffed, with plans to make sure the party gets invited to the Demonskar Ball, where they will be put in their place (a few rungs below Cauldron's muck shovelers).

The party in my campaign surprised Tongueater and then he rolled ow for his initiative. He got one good crit in before he copped it. Tongueater was a bit of an anti-climax but only because of bad rolls.
The party are up against Skaven and the Harpoon Spider soon. I'm going to have fun with that one. :)

One of the standards of my campaigns is the minion who goes down to <5 hit points and then becomes unhittable. This was not Tongueeater's story... this was a baboon. The party was unloading on TE with non-silvered weapons while one baboon went from PC to PC, completely mauling people, before they took down TE and turned their attention to the baboon. One hit and he went down, much to the embarrassment of the people who ignored him...

We played yesterday night and Tongueater was a huge pain in the butt for my players! They made the big error to allow him to prepare himself with all of his potions while his baboons were keeping the pcs busy. He then emerged and starded to be a big problem! The warlock went to -20 hp due to a crit and the fighter/rougue to -9! The remaining party was finally able to put him down! Great fight! Lots of fun!

My crew managed to surprise him, so he didn't even get to use one potion. They found him almost right away. They mopped up the bandits in the main bar, then found that door north of the bar, and two rooms later, there's Tongueater. Now I'm scrambling to get the Kopru Ruins ready for them for this week! I figured the Lucky Monkey would keep 'em busy for at least another session...

My party faced tongueater last week and probably will this friday as well.
They went in the lucky monkey through the front door, battle the drunk henchmen, chased on into the baboon lair, fought the baboons, and then had tongueater burst in on them midfight.
He had plenty of time for potion-drinking and proceeded to power attack his way through two PC's (dead).
2 other PC's were brought to heavy negatives and he and the remaining baboons got busy eating tongues. If not for a clever use of invisibility by the wizard they would have all died.
The invisible wizard shoved some potions down the two uncious PC's throats and then cast rope trick to save them. Very clever, but very dangerous.

My crew did this, too--no sneaking around outside to find out what's up, no evaluating the situation, they didn't even bother to buff first, just: "I'm kicking the door in," from the fighter/rogue! As I said above, they were darn lucky.

My party managed to take out tongueeater relatively quickly too, though they suffered through the combat. Ironically, they were more challenged by the mud slaad, who managed to infect one of the players. Soon he will be changing into a slaad himself, and because slaad are not common monsters, the players don't even know it!
I feel bad, I hope they realize it soon, I'd hate for the character to be permanently lost.

Tongueeater was almost no threat to my party. They came in the back door, though making enough noise for him to know to prepare. He did some damage, but not a lot. Honestly, the room was so small (with him enlarged) it really constrained combat.
I did have the reenforcements show up but, even then, it wasn't much of a challenge.
Neither was Skaven and the harpoon spider. The hardest combat has been the T-Rex skeleton, I think!

When I DM'd the Tongueeater encounter, the PCs also snuck around back and went in the back door. The fighter/cleric wields a spiked chain, and the druid summoned wolf after wolf after wolf and just surrounded Tongueeater - at least one wolf managed to hit him - and probably every other round, he was tripped - and every time he stood up, another lash from the spiked chain over the wolves heads. It took forever, but he didn't hurt the PCs at all, just the critters the druid was summoning between he and the players.
