Does anyone (Geg A. Vaughn) know if this product is going to be a FR-specific product, or will it bring the drow back to Greyhawk's Vault of the Drow?

Silver Crusade

The title and the Amazon page certainly don't give any clues. I'd bet my money on an FR supplement, though. WotC hasn't published any Greyhawk supplements in years, and they're not likely to make a campaign-generic supplement on drow given that even the PC races are at least three to a book (see the races series).

With the exception of Expedition to the Demonweb Pits, which will be released just prior to Drow of the Underdark.

*bump*

Dark Archive

There was a 2nd edition Forgotten Realms soft cover called Drow of the Underdark, and it was by Ed Greenwood. This might be an update of that particular book? Either way, I am really looking forward to this as WotC has as of yet to do a true Drow "centric" supplement in third edition. Underdark for the Forgotten Realms had a lot of Drow stuff, but was still more about the Underdark itself than Drow. City of the Spider Queen was a super adventure featuring Realmsian Drow, but we still haven't had a true Drow supplement. I hope this one doesn't disappoint.

I would be willing to bet that this is a core supplement. Its listed as a D&D supplement, and usually when something shows up on Amazon that is a FR supplement it says so. That having been said, another thing I would cite about this being a "core" supplement is that the original Draconomicon was a Forgotten Realms supplement, and the 3.5 Draconomicon was a core supplement. I'm willing to bet that this is the same thing.

A reasonable assumption KnightErrantJR. I had hoped we would finally get a Realms sourcebook that touches on what is going on with the Drow in the wake of the WotSQ. However, I am starting to think that the novel series "Drowed" everyone out to the point that we won't see another Realms Drow sourcebook til 4th edition.

Well, next year we know that three of the big books of the FR will be the epic adventure trilogy that begins with Cormyr: The Tearing of the Weave, and we know that somewhere down the line there will be a product that somehow relates to the excellent FR timeline that Brian R James has created. We also know that there is an UnderMountain project coming up, most likely an "Expedition to UnderMountain" kind of thing coming out. So next year is likely pretty full up for room for a specific sourcebook that might deal with the given topic.

However, Thomas Reid is writing a trilogy that will follow Kanyr Vhok and Alizsa after the WOTSQ books, and Lisa Smedmen is doing a trilogy that follows the Lady Penitant and what happens between her and the drow in the Dalelands coming up as well. So there will at least be some literary follow up to the events in the War of the Spider Queen.

For more information, skip on over to Candlekeep and do a few searches, or just ask for the links to the various discussions, the members there are pretty happy to help out.
