Of course for the DMs who read this I'm talking about Zyrxog. :)
If so did he scale well to the normal version of a Mind Flayer in terms of difficulty? Do you think he would be easier or harder to defeat?
My players arent interested in running any psionic characters atm, but I kind of wanted to add some psionic stuff here and there. I was thinking I might sprinkle a tiny amount of Psionics for added flavor and only to creatures that have been known to use it. If a player dies and wants to come back with a Psionic character, I would be ok with it too.

Yes, I changed him to a psionic based flayer simply because I wanted to throw something different at the group. We have two new players that haven't really encountered psionics before, so I thought it would be a good opportunity for them to experience something new. I've changed a bit of the story line, so at this point they may or may not get into combat with him, so we'll see.

I changed him into a telepath of the same level then gave him a couple similar powers and things I felt made sense. I never used psionic blast as he levitated up out of range and rained down powers at them. It became a pretty difficult fight for party but they won with no casualities.

I used a psionic mind flayer too. I felt it made the combat more fun (at least for me) and the various powers were unique enough that it didn't feel like just another wizard.
I gave him three more levels of psion (telepath). I had a memoriable night with Ego Whip taking the bard cohort out of the picture ....
The problem with the psionic mindflayer is all the math, though. :)

Be careful with this one. Most psionic powers resonably duplicate spells of the appropriate levels, but there are some to watch out for. Schism stands out foremost, but making him a pyschokinitecist (hope I spelled right) with fun stuff like Control Body and the various energy powers makes for a lethal fight. I recommend swapping out some of his arcane gear for some psionic items..nothing as broken as a psi-crown, but maybe dorjes and other minor-medium itmes.
