Elemental Powered Ship in STAP (Eberron)

For those who have read through the second chapter of ST and are using it in Eberron, what would you think of making the Sea Wyvern an elemental powered vessel. I don't think it would need to be state of the art Lyrander or Zilargo technology, but possibly an older ship (possibly one of the original versions). What do you think?


Sounds like it would work for me. If it were an elemental powered vessel being little more than in name, it works great, and adds that Eberron feel to it.


Considering it would make it more difficult to pilot unless you had a Lyrandar heir in the party, I could see that. I may very well have to use that.

As I am bringing an existing party into the AP, I'll be skipping the entire first adventure, but perhaps bringing some elements into it. Instead of Diamondback being an agent of House Killani, she will be sent by the Emerald Claw, which the characters have tangled with in the past.

As we are also concurrently going through the AoWAPwith a different DM, the festival will not be in celebration of the defeat of the worms, but rather either a local festival or a religeous holiday. I am setting Sasserine on an island off the coast of Q'barra, and I doubt they would have a festival to celebrate the end of the Last War. I'm thinking some big festival to honor the worm in the bottle of Q'barran tequila.

I am also thinking the floats in the parade are going to be 'floats'. You have a city built on canals and you have a parade through the streets? I don't think so.

Also, after watching Cirque de Soleil last night, the Houses of Shadow will be out making great spectacles of juggling, tumbling and acrobatics, during the festival.

Bullywugs? Maybe, but I very well may change them to lizardfolk. Bullywugs are a very nostalgic think for me. The Lost City was one of my favorite mods, and the D&D cartoon always had them boiling out of some crevasse, with Dungeon Master quipping "Oh dear! Bullywugs!"

Kind of off topic here, but I my players are starting as the crew of a pre-existing ship, my original plan being that as a pre AP setup, we would have a small adventure in which their ship goes down and while they barely escape the accident, some of the NPC crew are lost at sea. My question, as I don't have 140 as of yet, is...

How do the adventurers come upon the Wyvern? Is it a stolen ship, an abandoned ship, a reward from their employer or what?

I was thinking perhaps I would change the story a bit and have their ship taken from them by pirates or some such, allowing them to just reclaim their ship instead of the Wyvern. Do you think that could work? Thanks for the help all.
