The awkward but simple answer is: it all depends. :)
We're about to do our 15th twelve hour session and we're in the middle of module 5 - The Champion's Belt. I've allowed our group to sidetrack here and there but in the main, they have stuck to the path. That's for a group starting at 5 and going up to 7 though. Funnily enough, with more people, there has been less time for side-tracking so things have gone more quickly with people not wishing to indulge in "personal" time out of respect for the group.
Anyway, that's our group's experience so far, I'm sure other groups would vary by quite a wide margin.
