Nethertome of Trask

Age of Worms Adventure Path

In the Three Faces of Evil, the adventure background says that the faceless one origionally came upon the name of Kyuss and the Way of the Ebon Triad in a tome called the Nethertome of Trask. Does he still have it? It's not mentioned anywhere else in the adventure, but I think it would add some great color for the PC's to find it after the defeat of the Faceless One. Opinions? I'm kind of 50/50 right now cause I don't want to give the player's to much info at this point, but the adventure seems to allude that the Nethertomb contains many other things besides just secrets of the Age of Worms.

As to the Tome itself, that would most likely be an adventure in itself, seeing as it would be something very hard to procure, even for a Vecnan cultist. Also, it would more than likely not be on The Faceless One's person, being such an important text to him. It would more than likely be in his own personal library outside of the Labrynth, long forgotten and dusty since he joined the Ebon Triad. It would make for some intesting adventuring if the PC's decided to look for it, and for you to make the home of a fanatical Vecnan cultist. Still on the Tome theme, The Faceless One may have turned it over to "Mother Maggot" as a token of complete devotion to the Triad cause, renouncing his old life and join. On that note, they could probably find it in the PoRH.

As to the factor of too much information, you're probably right. At this stage, the PCs should be as in the dark as is possible, or at least until they're above tenth level, or maybe after SoLS. As to that as well, I would still keep them at least a little in the dark until Wormcrawl, as there they find out everything they need to know. I can only wonder what it will be like for your group at those levels. Every team is different, and there are so many ways to play. Anything can happen!

RPG Superstar 2013 Top 8

In my game, I replaced the Nethertome of Trask with the Apostolic Scrolls, which the Faceless One read under the wing of a goat-legged man in the Free City. Needless to say, this hook captured the imagination of one of my players totally... for a session. Next week, he'd forgotten all about it. I don't know if I'll get an "oohh!" moment when they meet Bozal or not.

I suspect not.
