What books to use?

I'm sure this question was answered previously, but I can't seem to find it.

Which books other than the core three are recommended for use by the DM during the STAP? Obviously Stormwrack will be on the list, as well as the Fiendish Codex. Any others that would be especially helpful?

For playing the campaign as presented, you'll only need the three core books. If, though, you want to expand themes and adventrues or just familairize yourself with the type of books used to build the campaign, that list would be (in the order they appear on my shelf—that is, in no particular order):

Anyway... it's a big list. Which is why we reprint everything needed to play the adventrues! :-)


Scary thing is, James' list is on the order of $750.

Scarier thing is, I knew a guy who would get into game systems and buy every single book available. When he (inevitably) lost interest, he'd sell them off. Then he'd get interested about a year later and buy again. For D&D he would get everything, including novels and novelties (and two copies of the core books).

Anyway, yes. It's an expensive list. Especially when you consider that we may only be using one or two fairly minor things from one of those books.


Scary thing I own like 80% of that list. and I don't neccesarily have alot of money.

yeah...I own all that, plus more (forgotten realms, eberron) plus 2nd ed. plus 1st edition, plus the old box sets...

I am SOOOOOO glad my wife hasn't discovered what all that would be worth on eBay...she'd would love to toss it all!


Out of that list, I own all but three. Mostly due to the fact that they weren't at the FLGS when I had some cold, hard cash in hand.

Um...yeah. I've got the core books, Fiend Folio, ELH, and Dragon Compendium...well, I guess that will have to do. Me poor, me no buy more books...


Got 'em all except four. Dragon Compendium has never been high on my list as I own all the Dragon mags involved. Fiendish Codex 1: Hordes of the Abyss, Player's Handbook II, Tome of Magic are all on my eBay/Amazon list as soon as I sell some excess colossal reds...
