I've just been reading the STAP overload thread and couldn't help getting jealous of those that will be able to get to GenCon. I would love the opportunity to put faces to names and enjoy many a word about the three APs with authors and players alike. However, it just doesn't look like it's going to happen. But why not?
Surely the UK is D&D's second biggest market but I'm not aware of any effort being made by Paizo or WOTC to run similar events here. Is it because they're not successful? Surely not! Is it because it's expensive to get here? More likely, but that can't be cited for too long before fans of the game and magazines start to feel ignored.
So I suppose I'm asking: are you intending to do anything about it? And if not, why not?

While Paizo has no plans to attend any UK conventions anytime soon, Gen Con UK is just over a year away.
The reason we don't attend is pretty much as you expected: it's impossible to justify the expense. Gen Con Indy draws 26,000 people, while Gen Con UK draws less than a quarter of that. Further, the cost of sending people and stuff there is far, far greater.
On the other hand, Paizo has good relationships with a few companies that operate in the UK, so it's not impossible that you might see some representation at larger shows some day in the future.
