139 Cover and Savage Tide Iconics?

Savage Tide Adventure Path

Been playing at my FLGS this weekend and noticed the cover of 139 in the latest Previews magazine. Here's the best online version I could find:

Anyone know what those creatures are? What about the classes and races? If that's a cleric, which god do you think he worships?

Disclaimer: This is just a cover from Previews and may or may not represent the actual cover or be related to Savage Tide in any way.

I don't think it's from "savage tide". It was the opening picture of a FR adventure (Within the Circle) in issue 130.

The creatures are some lizardoid critters described in "Serpent Kingdoms" (I have forgotten their name).

That image is indeed from the opening illo for "Within the Circle", a Forgotten Realms adventure we published a few issues ago. The monsters are muckdwellers (from Serpent Kingdoms and from the 1st edition Monster Manual II before that).

Put another way, this is in no way a preview of that issue's cover, content, or the new iconics (who will be debuting on the cover if all goes well, and hoo boy do they look cool!).

Since you brought it up...my players just finished Within the Circle. Let me just say that our muckdweller encounter did not go quite as depicted. The party's wizard managed to translate enough of their primitive language to encourage the party to give the little lizards a wide berth. Well, except the ninja who crept over to their village just in case there was something to acquire. It ended with the ninja turning invisible and running for his life... By the end of the adventure I would say "You open the door to-" and the group would finish "a fifty foot round room!" As funny as it was, it still left far more questions unanswered than they liked (hint, hint). Kudos to Sam Brown!

They are indeed designed by Wayne, and they do indeed look cool.

In fact, one could say that they look incredible. Or rad.

It could really go either way.

Ninja stories never end well in D&D -- why is that?
