enough success for Volume II?

With all the talk about Adventure Paths, Item Packs, Map Packs, etc., I haven't heard anything in regards to whether or not Volume I was successful enough to warrant a Volume II. Should we look forward to such a product?

We sold out of the first print run, and the second run has been moving along nicely—you might note that it's still riding the paizo.com Top Seller list. We all consider it a very successful project.

However, as a licensed product, the decision on if or when a followup volume may appear is not solely up to us.

I certainly am. I imagine there are legal wranglings involved, though, with WotC and authors to be dealt with. Too bad we can't send the commando ninja dire flumphs to deal with them. :-D

I've personally lost faith in WotC. I'm worried they won't go through with Volume 2 for awhile, if at all. And if so, I feel they might hack it apart instead of letting the original writers just do their awesome job.

Dragon and Dungeon, you guys are cool. Sucks you have to get dragged down by WotC's changes to the system such as the ridiculous PrC format and other such things.

Hi there,

I just ensured that volume I grew slightly more successful. After having realized that it was sold out at almost all places here in Cologne/ Germany, I just bought the last one yesterday.

I was very unsure if there was enough old converted material to make it a worthy purchase. After giving it a thorough look up, I have to say: yes, it does! :-) I would like to see more of the old edition material being brought back to life (by being converted), but even so it is an immensely useful help for me. Where do you find classes, PrC, monsters, feats and especially the other useful stuff that makes a DM's life easier: packed into one volume!

Even more important: which source book provides such a good combination and bridges the old and new edition material?
I know adventures which do this job quite well.
But source books?
Source books that make use of the original material?

Reading this thread I fear that the latest posters were right: on the other hand I ponder, if it wouldn't be easier to e.g. publish a volume II focussed on Greyhawk?

1. WotC just passively supports their core setting. The last official real Greyhawk product I can remember was the Gazetteer (and even that was an RPGA product being precise).

2. A Greyhawk centered volume II wouldn't decrease WotC's share on their two main settings, similar as Ravenloft and Dragonlance books published by other companies.

Hhhmm... I am not part of the industry, but maybe this is the way to go. As I understand, volume I already took longer than its Dungeon counterpart due to much conversion work (and probably some licence agreements to be made).

Nevertheless many Dragon readers (me one of them) eagerly await volume II. :-)

Greetings,
Günther

A Greyhawk volume is asking too much, that would shy away those that don't play in Greyhawk.

I disagree, but then both of us are unlikely to have a look into a crystal ball. ;-)

My opinion is that high selling numbers of Dragon (which does sport a big amount of material for the generic D&D setting) show that Greyhawk content does sell well, too.

My opinion is also, that you are obviously not a GH fan. But then I am neither. ;-)

Most readers of Dragon wish to read material usable for their campaigns. Their campaigns are mostly "standard fantasy" (unlike e.g. Eberron). Greyhawk was there before most settings. Due to that simple fact most of the GH material pusblished so far is usable without much changes needed.

It is that simple reason I would like to see a GH volume. Besides I never got a grasp on that setting (I just started playing D&D too late!), and would love to see a Dragon compendium volume that is
a) usable in every standard D&D setting,
b) is more coherent than volume I, and
c) I wouldn't mind a deeper glimpse into Greyhawk. ;-)

Greetings,
Günther
