Looking at the Greyhawk map it occurs to me that there's a great swath of the map southwest of what's detailed that is just outlined. In Faerun these would be places like Kara Tur, Mazteca, and Al Quediim. I was wondering if there's similar product dedicated to the shadow parts of Oerth, or if its all just unexplored territory. I'd be interested to know what's known and what's left to be discovered. Thanks.

If I remember correctly, Dragon ran a series of articles a few years back (maybe the 290's?) that detailed Western Oerik for the Chainmail miniatures game. Seems to me there was an old elven empire that was being eclipsed by a new human kingdom, a dwarven workers-collective nation and a gnoll kingdom led by a priest-king related to their demon-god.

I know that Scottenkainen over at Canonfire.com wrote an article called 'Overview of Oerik'. It may give you some good ideas on the expanse of the continent that 'known' Greyhawk is, literally, only the tip of.
here's the address: http://www.canonfire.com/cfhtml/modules.php?name=News&file=article& sid=364

Grimcleaver, Dragon Annual #1 (published in 1996) had a two-page feature on just this subject. One page was a map and another listed various countries/areas. It was written by Skip Williams (the old Sage) based on an old map of Gary Gygax's. The issue might still be available for sale, or maybe someone can lend it to you.
If it's not available, that article should probably be in the next Dragon Compendium.
I'm pretty certain that the stuff developed for the Chainmail miniatures game contradicts it, in which case ignore the Chainmail stuff.
By the way, please tell Galin that I've replied to his comments in the "Wheel of Time magic system thread". Cheers!

Although others who have written about Greyhawk might disagree on my take, in the History of the Flanaess, which you can read/obtain on Canonfire.com contains the history of the Suel Empire, and that history states that the Suel at one point had the entire western half of Oerik (the continent that contains the Flanaess-which is the eastern part of the continent) under their rule. The rain of colorless fire destroyed the Suel Kingdom in what is now the Sea of Dust only. I would contend that the Suel may still yet have kingdoms in Western Oerik built before the Rain of Colorless fire and still there now.

I have this issue. It was a pretty cool little article. It gave a few sentences of information on each area of the map. I don't have it on me at the moment, but I believe some of the lands were oriental in nature. They even had a "Great Wall" type thing.

Don't forget that there IS official game material detailing the lands to the east of Oerik, across the Solnor. This continent is called "Aquaria" (or "Aqua-Aerdi", alternatively) and it was first introduced in the RPGA R1-4 series of modules--to be later repackaged as I12 "Egg of the Phoenix". Created by Frank Mentzer, it was subsequently given "official" blessing by Gary Gygax as being placed in the World of Greyhawk.
I only bring this up as this is where a large part of my personal campaign setting is placed! :) Hope it helps you, though....
