The Three Faces of Evil: Final Battle with 6 armed Evil guy...Align Weapon?

So we are in our final battle with the 6 armed evil guy that rises out of the pit....

My cleric casts "Align Weapon" on his War hammer, and it has no effect when it hits.
I was going to cast it on our Fighters +1 Longsword, but he refused during battle to accept it. I guess he figured it wouldnt help?

I assume this is either a Demon, Devil or Outsider/summoned creature.
I have not seen any Demon/Devil or Outsider (non good) that does not have at least "good" as a Damage Reduction exception.

I do not know the stats of this creature.
There must be a reason.

Can someone enlighten me?
I have been reading about damage reduction since the battle, but am still confused about this specific instance.

Even if his Damage Reduction was 10/magic or something like that....wouldnt this "still" have some effectivness?

My "Holy Water" damaged him, and I only had to make a touch attack to throw it at him. That is good, and specifically states it damages Outsiders. Did the DM allow that by mistake?

Thanks...

There is a reason in the creature's stat block for what heppened, but as you're a player in the game, it may not be appropriate for you to get metagame information about this creature's stat block. Instead, I recommend that you talk to your GM. Maybe if your character has some ranks in the appropriate Knowledge skill (or you add them the next time you level up), or if your group consults (in character) with someone in town who is known to be very learned and who can do research for you, that'll be sufficient for the DM to explain what happened.

Hi Wolverine,

I support the position of not betraying anything on the creature's statblock, but for the purpose of helping out nevertheless I'd say the following:

If a creature that has "DR 10/parsnips", it can only be hurt with full effectiveness by parsnips. If your carrot is +5, buttered and good-aligned, it's not going to help. You still need a parsnip.

So if the "align weapon" spell of your cleric did not help, it probably means that the "small extra" brought by the spell was not the one needed. Something else in his arsenal of spells might have helped make the weapons more efficient... or not!

As suggested, have your characters consult a sage, or try to research the beast with six arms to see if you find something out. One never knows: it might come in handy...

LOL! A flawless example, I love it!

Wolverine, on behalf of all the DMs on this board, I'm officially chastizing you for trying to metagame your way past this creature.

As I always say to my players whenever they have questions like this:

"You've never faced anything like this before; I have no obligation to explain why your hit is ineffective to you - you need to figure it out.

Feel free to interview the creature, in-game."

Trust me, in the long run you'll appreciate not having memorized all the Monster Manuals - your game will be that much more exciting.

Good job on getting ranks in Knowledge that will help with that kind of stuff (see - fighters need to be smart, too); I see your intuitive leap on seeing the magic weapon work and hoping that an aligned one would, too - but alas, no dice. That would've required your foe to have DR 10/magic or good, which it did not...

You've atoned, young Padawan; go about your business :-P

We should rewrite the Monster Manual in culinary analogies. It would open the game to new target groups. ;-)
