HoHR--question on Telakin

Age of Worms Adventure Path

According to the "consume identity" description for greater doppelgangers, they gain the victim's "memories, abilities, & alignment."

I'm assuming "abilities" means "ability scores," as it ability scores are not listed for things that remain the same.

The problem is that the ability scores for Telakin's assumed identities are not given. We can assume the intelligence of the wizard by the spell save DC, but we have nothing beyond that.

Actually, abilities in this case refers to the creature's supernatural, spell-like, and extraordinary abilities (including spellcasting). The doppelganger gains the new form's STR, DEX, and CON, but retains his own INT, WIS, and CHA, the same as with pretty much all other shape changing type stuff.

Any idea what the STR, DEX, & CON are for Telakin's consumed identities?

Along this vein--does Telakin need to use the wizard's spellbook, or does he just have access to the spells the wizard had memorized at time of death, once per day, as spell-like abilities?

If none of our fearless editors has an answer for my earlier question, I think I will rule that the class abilities of the absorbed characters work exactly as they did with the original character. Thus, Telakin took the wizard's spellbook when he consumed his mind, and now uses it to prep spells. That being the case, I'll need to fill out the spellbook with a few extra spells, to be realistic. This will be a boon to the party wizard, but may allow him to prepare a few different spells, since he'll probably have some intelligence on the party's capabilities.

And since no one seems to have statted up Telakin's two forms, I guess it would be easist to use the elite ability array, adding racial modifiers and two ability score increases for level.

Valdagan: Str 8, Dex 14, Con 12, Int 17, Wis 13, Cha 10

Bragat: Str 21, Dex 13, Con 14, Int 8, Wis 10, Cha 6

I'm additionally going to rule that he would have to rest in Wizard form once he's used the spells he has memorized in order to get the spells/day back. I like your ruling, Peruhain. Guess it's time to put together a spell book!

Given what James suggests above, shouldn't he have the mental abilities of his doppleganger-self in all forms?

The description in the appendix is a bit ambiguous--it says "possesses the victim's memories, abilities, and alignment." James' version does make sense, given that the doppelganger is using the borrowed form and knowledge/memories for its own purposes and presumably doesn't lose its own mental consciousness (and also given how polymorph and other shape-changing abilities work). And since greater doppels have high mental abilities, it works reasonably well for this situation.

Here is the spellbook I came up with:

Valdagan¡¦s spellbook
0¡Xall
1st¡Xcharm person, grease, mage armor, magic missile, obscuring mist, ray of enfeeblement
2nd¡Xfalse life, resist energy, scorching ray, darkvision, glitterdust
3rd¡Xclairvoyance, dispel magic, fireball, slow, suggestion
4th¡Xconfusion, wall of fire, illusory wall
