The Iron Wood, Verbobonc, Greyhawk

3.5/d20/OGL

I have searched the web and all the books I can find regarding the haunted, lycanthrope filled forest known as the Iron Wood. It is located on the western boarder of Verbobonc in the Greyhawk campaign setting. I'm about to run a short campaign there, and I am a stickler on details. Can anyone point me toward a few resources that I may use to add depth to the region? I'd even like to hear your take on the area.

Some names that I have found related to the area are Shannus (wood elf), Syian Theus (elfin owner of the Fallen Timber Tavern), Uther Muldoon (possibly the 1st owner of the tavern), and the enigmatic Moonlord. Any added hints on these guys would be swell.

Please and thank you all in advance.

Sovereign Court

Most information on Verbobonc and its surrounding territory can be found online. Keep in mind that their are different versions of the City of Verbobonc and its history. Check out Oerth Journals #8 & 9, available at www.canonfire.com. One of Canonfire's recent additions is a great looking map of the city. I once downloaded a nice 3D map of Verbobonc that went along with the Oerth Journal articles but I don't remember where I found it. Also take a look at the Journal of the Wanderer at www.verbobonc.net. The not-so-recent TSR Greyhawk adventure compilation, "Fate of Istus", has an alternate description of Verbobonc along with an adventure. Last, but certainly not least, the following published adventures took place in Verbobonc and introduced Verbobonc locations such as Hommlet, Nulb, and Osnabrolt: "Temple of Elemental Evil", "Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil", and "Vecna Lives".

I hope I didn't miss anything. I became a Greyhawk convert not to long ago when I ran RttToEE and wanted to find as much information as I could about the surrounding area. I discovered a setting that was much richer than I expected. My next campaign will take place in the Domain of Greyhawk, but I'll always have a soft spot for Gnarley Verbobonkers.

Silver Crusade

Assuming you can find it, you may wish to take a look at Dungeon #53, p.32-37 ("A serenade before supper"). This mini-adventure details the Wayfarer's Rest inn and the Iron Wood. Nice, scary encounter too...
