Using Two Weapon fighting & Combat expertise

3.5/d20/OGL

If i take say -5 attack and +5 to AC (dodge bonus)(combat expertise) can I use Two weapon Defense to add another +2 AC (shield bonus)if i say im fighting defensively? So -5 attack and +7 to AC.

Yes a dodge bonus stacks with all other AC bonuses, including another dodge bonus.

I think yes, because the bonus from CombatExpertise is a dodge bonus and the bonus from fighting defensively is a shield bonus. Two different boni stack.

I think yes, because the bonus from CombatExpertise is a dodge bonus and the bonus from fighting defensively is a shield bonus. Two different boni stack.

I think "fighting defensively" is another form of the dodge bonus, so that should also stack with Combat expertise and Two weapon defense.

I wasn't exactly sure about the FD-bonus and don't have my PH here. But as long as only two kinds of boni are involved and one is also a dodge bonus - no problems in stacking those!
Right you are!

Remeber that Fighting Defensively is another -4 to attack and gives you a +2 dodge bonus. Combat Expertise is usually the better choice in such a situation if you still want a good chance to connect.

Also remember that having 5 ranks in Tumble changes the fighting defensively bonus to +3 (instead of +2), and if you use the alternate "Extreme Tumbling" rules in Oriental Adventures, having 15 ranks in Tumble changes the bonus to +4.

Two-Weapon Defense gives a +2 bonus when fighting defensively. The Improved Two-Weapon Defense feat increases this bonus to +4, and the Greater Two-Weapon Defense feat increases this bonus to +6 (both of these feats can be found in Complete Warrior).

In addition, some prestige classes give extra bonuses for fighting defensively (the Duelist from the Dungeon Master's Guide and the Dervish from Complete Warrior come most readily to mind).

Yes they do stack, however (as per Xaxor) fighting defensive requires a -4 to attack for just +2 dodge AC. So if you are using combat expertise -5 and fighting defensively you are -9 to hit and for a +7 dodge AC, which seems a poor, but fair deal.

However, the two weapon defense shield bonus sounds like it stacks with the defensive fighting dodge bonus.
So if combat expertise -5, fighting defensive -4 with two weapons you would get +5 dodge +2 dodge +2 shield AC = +9 AC for a -9 to hit. This seems like a really good deal - perhaps too good?
