Shackled City Adventure Path

Alright guys im a new DM and my friend who usually Dms wants to play in this campaigne so i said id dm. i have been playing for a year or so si i figured i could do it. then he told me the campaigne i was liek cool. i must not of heard the size of oit. cuz he comes in during one of our other campaigne sessions and gives me the campaigne which is larger than the damn dmg. i was like wtf. The Shackled City. Well ive got most of it done but i wanted some advice on the conversions so i came here. i know what to do for the most part. i have to change the dieties but im not sure what to change them to. we are doing this campaigne in FR so maybe you can help. it would be appreciated and any other tips are welcome. Thanks. Fralios the noob DM.

If you are a newbie DM I would recommend that you run the campaign as is instead of converting it to FR. Believe me, you will have your hands full in any case.

However, if you decide to do the conversion there are a number of threads on these boards you could check out:

I agree with Evilash...

... This campaign is a tough one. I've been DMing for over fifteen years and even I was overwhelmed at times. I would even suggest that you start with an regular old first level adventure, just to get you used to it (maybe a short trek to get to Cauldron). Then, if you feel up to it, follow up with the adventure path.

Just another note recommending that you stick SC in Greyhawk unless you are married to Forgotten Realms. If you do run it in Forgotten Realms, just mark up your book with your changes so you don't accidently read out loud a Greyhawk name during the game.

Well I have DM'd for the last 10 years and been playing for much longer. I grew tired of being DM all the time and it was starting to show in my games as they started to lack depth.

Anyway, one of the players in the group, a noob who's been playing for about a year, said he'd like to have a go. I was a bit apprehensive as he hadn't even read the DMG properly.

Well he's now running Age of Worms and he's really bringing an angle that has been missing; that of the noob. The value of the noob is underestimated and not fully realised until they throw their tuppence in, be it as a player or DM.

I guess what I'm trying to say is: Don't worry, be confident and your players will have confidence in you.

Well sadly i guess you could say that my group is married to FR. this is actually about my 3rd time dming. i have dmed 2 campaignes and made my own and DMed it. my friends enjoyed it and said i did a great job. i just need a lil help on the conversions. We do everything in FR nowadays just cuz its more expanded and we know more about it due to Salvatore mainly taht and we have like every FR book out. but thanks for the advice. it is much appreciated.

Hey Fralios,

What area of the FR are you considering?

If you drop the SCAP in Tashalar or the Vilhon Reach, I don't imagine too much conversion work would be necessary.

I dropped my campaign into the Unapproachable East (Wizard's Reach) and I've really got my hands full with conversions, especially as the campaign takes on a life of its own. Little things in the first few adventures balloon into big changes down the road.

If you have a specific area you want to run it in, and any of my campaign notes would help you convert it, I'm glad to share ...

all i know for sure is that is is far south. and the area we will be in does not take many changes. all that really needs changed is a very very few creatures and of course they gods.
